There is a jazz connection...he wrote and directed (a pretty crappy, as I remember it) jazz-themed film, Lulu on the Bridge, with Harvey Keitel, Willem Dafoe and Mira Sorvino, plus a bunch of cameos by the Likes of Lou Reed. Blue Note released the soundtrack. My first interaction with his work was from his script for a truly brilliant film, The Music of Chance. I also read one of his books, about a really fat man and his son, the title escapes me now. Looks like he lived an interesting life. -

Happy Birthday!

Interesting that his profile is rising like that in the UK. He is gradually moving to the front of pack, at a late stage in his life. I just assumed that was the case in the US too. He's playing with Corey Wilkes and Alex Harding at the Union Chapel, so that will be enjoyable too. I like Harding a lot: very satisfying and soulful stuff, although I find the 'twitching' a little distracting.

I have a bunch of CD's by the EHE, and appreciate them all. The one with Pharoah Sanders is especially compelling.

RIP. I liked his twang, though the material was usually lacking.

Yes, hope to see you there! She might've had a few lessons, but "studied with" is debatable. There are grumblings about these reports. I don't feel like airing them here.
