  1. Past hour
  2. Last time I was in a library I was writing my Ph.D dissertation Edit: Later I visited some historic libraries as a tourist, not as a reader
  3. Was listening to the 2nd Big Satan album, Souls Saved Hear. Better imho than the first - just wonderful, compact anarchy. Marc Ducret is so good.
  4. First time I listened to them I thought it was a Du Nann work, but it wasn’t. Guess Contemporary had a good vibe whoever was behind the console. I don’t have a bad sounding Contemporary.
  5. I find myself buying more than ever these days (and will have to have a clear out soon). As a regular visitor to our National Trust historic houses and gardens, most of these have second hand bookshops where bargains can be found for a few £. Similarly, Oxfam. I don't think I've used a library for 30 years !
  6. Indeed - hard to believe that you are not there, facing the stage. My copies are the green deep-groove pressing.
  7. Surprisingly all the instruments has a perfect balance and the illusion of being there is overwhelming. Definitely a great recording.
  8. I would guess that the main reason physical book sales are down is because they keep jacking up the prices. Why would anyone pay $30 for a new book when they can pay $12-15 for an e-book version? I used to try buying physical copies but I eventually switched over to e-books. The only times I find myself reading an actual book is when i check one out from the library.
  9. Yes, same here. I have early stereo copies and can't think of anything that sounds better than them for live recordings.
  10. Today
  11. When there are blue skies .... sort of ....
  12. I have the original vinyls, up to vol 4. Among the best sounding live recordings in my collection.
  13. Actually, there are reverb removal programs, though I have no idea how effective they are - note, also, that on those samples I can hear the reverb even on the live recordings, which means some dumbshit engineer thought this was a good idea.
  14. Gary Smulyan, Dominic Chianese – Bella Napoli. Capri Records– 74129-2 [2013] Personnel: Jeff Lederer (as), Gary Smulyan (bs), Joseph Brent (mandolin, v), Gary Versace (acc, p), Martin Wind (b), Matt Wilson (dr), Dominic Chianese (voc) … wonderful music!
  15. She has good humour obviously 😇😈 ....
  16. This is one of my favourite Sanders records. There is a real smoothness to it, along with a lot of brawn. My wife burst laughing when I brought it out of the bag.
  17. Charlie Parker - Bird/The Savoy Recordings (Master Takes)
  18. It has Danny Mixon on piano and organ, Calvin Hill on bass and Greg Bandy on drums. It’s a Pharoah favorite being very groovy and accessible but also creative and original in sound. Pharoah didnt sound like an exact Coltrane copy yet but had his own thing.
  19. Recorded @ Kingsway Hall in September 1982 .... Jorge Bolet goes South ....
  20. Sophie Ellis-Bextor "Shoot From The Hip" (Polydor) 2003 .... Cover Photography by Steve Hiett ....
  21. Ian Matthews "Stealin`Home" (Rockburgh Records) 1978 .... superb Cover Photography by Steve Hiett ....
  22. 👍 I'm supposed to see them in a couple of weeks in Toronto, and I believe they will be performing this piece.
