Here is a poster for a concert in St Louis in 1967. It was the Old/Quartet band (Bowie, Favors & Wilson) with Thurman Barker as a guest, IIRC.
We drove down from Chicago for the event.
I first discovered this recording on a Vox/Turnabout reissue in 1968. I was managing a record store in Bloomington Indiana and we sold something like 400 copies. This generated a phone call from George Mendelssohn, owner of Vox.
Just got off the phone with Ira. I called him because I hadn't heard from him for a while and the last time was about surgery. I had been worried about his health and it turns out he is more vigorous than I. Keep on keeping on Ira. He will be 87 in a few weeks.
John Litweiler reviews "Ride the Wind" (along with "Accelerated Projection" by Roscoe and Matt Shipp) in the latest Point of Departure.

As someone with decades in the music retail business, I mourn his passing. He was a giant in that market. Met him once and he seemed to be a nice human. Thanks Russ, I know you sold a bunch of nessa records.
