  1. Same here.
  2. Artful Dodger Joe Dodge Ron Crotty
  3. This information is mostly the same as printed in the Raben book I mentioned (from 1969) but he added the following timings for the October 12, 1963 session: Consequences (7:34) Trio take 1 (8:34) Trio take 2 (6:44)
  4. I have a 1969 publication by Erik Raben called "A Discography of Free Jazz". It lists sessions by Ayler, Cherry, Coleman, Sanders, Shepp and Taylor. It says New York.
  5. This was originally part of a Roulette lp box called something like "The Birdland Story". I got a copy in Des Moines while in high school.
  6. Since these are simple black/white negs and prints (and not color separations) I would guess they a smaller than life size. Record companies frequently made negs like this to have on file for catalogs, magazine ads, inner sleeves, etc.
  7. I would pull the plug. Personnel is incorrect - Lloyd Buchanan, bass; Lloyd Turner, drums according to my notes.
  8. Bad news.
  9. Remember Henry and Steve playing their reference tapes (right after the session) for me and Terry Martin in Terry's apartment.
  10. As I understand it, Uptown has the original tapes but Ozzie gave a dub to Phil Schaap and it was broadcast. This issue must have been taken off the air. Once again a bootlegger foils and kills a better sounding recording.
  11. I believe the source is the same as the Uptown Hank Mobley set. I have a list of the "Ozzie Cadena holdiings" somewhere but can't locate it right now. I think NYC and Birdland are red herrings.
  12. Remember seeing a large BMW in Boston with a plate reading PU5SY.
  13. If there were 100 trucks in the mix I might crow.
  14. I would find it odd if I was concerned with the vodka race. Not to mention the "flavored" variety. Folks 40 years younger might feel differently.
  15. Ellington "Unknown Session".
  16. The BN disco says '57, unlike the cd package. I'd say the book is correct since the 45 rpm release numbers line up with others from this year. I do have the 45.
  17. That could have been an unissued Alan Bates recording. There are/were a few of them.
  18. Wild Bill was really defensive about that. I think the event dogged him to the grave.
  19. Powers Booth Bootsie Collins Colin Farrell
  20. Detroit Jr. Chicago Jr. Shirley Scott Jr. (I saw this woman!)
  21. It is a myth.
  22. It should look something like this:
  23. The original lps had 2 more tracks.
  24. How was that? Dream line up Friday night was mostly a damp squib for me. Leo played very well, but I could hear little or no effective group interaction. In fact, I almost fell asleep at times. Some (maybe most) of this response or lack of response may have had to do with me, but that's how it felt.
