  1. Not a bad price for a 2 disc set.
  2. Oh, hell yes, forgot about this some how, definitely a favourite. I will never forget - I was at a drunken campus party circa 1962 and spotted the lp on the floor, out of the jacket and the crowd was dancing on it. In my stupor, I rescued the badly scuffed record and went on a search for the jacket. After about 15 minutes I found it and ran home with my treasure. Never felt good or bad about my actions, but loved having some version of the music no matter how battered.
  3. Are they STILL your favourites, Chuck? I never got 'Star bag' until 1996, but I'd still put that in with other stuff I bought at the time. MG I still think they are wonderful recordings and listen to them. Nice to see my favorites from back then still hold up for me. I could have added Blakey's BN record of "A Night In Tunisia" and "Jazz Samba".
  4. No wonder I couldn't find it!
  5. Thinking back to my school days, these were most often on the turntable. Mal Waldron "The Quest" Steve Lacy "Evidence" John Coltrane "Africa Brass" Ornette Coleman "Town Hall 1962" Duke Ellington "Afro-Bossa"
  6. me 2.
  7. It has been remastered in 24 bit from original tapes and includes 2 more tracks from the audition tape Hal gave me. YMMV. Ira Sullivan is currently involved in writing liner notes for our issue of Circumstantial. Really looking forward to his essay!
  8. Indeed.

  10. To compliment the above recommendations, Sony issued an 18 track disc (culled from the Mosaic set) covering 1933-42.
  11. This is the cover of the upcoming Hal Russell NRG Ensemble + Charles Tyler disc. This issue contains the balance of the "audition tape" included on our last NRG issue.

  13. He might be wary of Gayles from any direction.
  14. Great list of Cecils. I got excited and started ordering before I understood I had them already!!
  15. What Jim said. In the late '30s Commodore and H.R.S. issued the larger size as well. Earlier, Irving Mills had convinced Victor and Brunswick to use the larger disc for Ellington.
  16. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!!
  17. The idea gives me the creeps.
  18. Silly game built to generate "hits" on Yahoo. They won and nothing else was accomplished.
  19. I can only make one venture to the city this year and am currently torn between this and the Evan Parker performances in September.
  20. Back in the day my mother gave me a full sheet of this Ellington stamp. I still have it.
  21. I might be able to make it. Thanks.
  22. I bought the Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB table a few months ago and am a happy camper. I did add a Shure cartridge so I could play my 78s.
