  1. It is illegal to sell them in the US but the copyright owner must legally pursue each distributor, store or marketer individually - not possible in reality.
  2. They were trying to compete with Nonesuch and Turnabout. Columbia was issuing Feldman, Carter, Boulez etc on Odyssey.
  3. I am partial to "Midnight Moonlight" (solo etudes) and "Double Duke" (two-fer of a trio session with NHOP and Billy Hart) on SteepleChase.
  4. The recreation of the Hal Russell Story was amazing - better than I could imagine. All the guys played their asses off and Michael Shannon "was" Hal Russell.

  12. Some jazz musicians, like the great and woefully under-appreciated Art Farmer, remained immaculately dressed throughout their careers. The last time I saw Miles Davis live, he was wearing a bright red leather jump suit, and looked ridiculous ... ??
  13. The lp version was the second jazz box I obtained after this: Then the Ellington and Holiday boxes followed. Damn!
