  1. As I understand it, Uptown has the original tapes but Ozzie gave a dub to Phil Schaap and it was broadcast. This issue must have been taken off the air. Once again a bootlegger foils and kills a better sounding recording.
  2. I believe the source is the same as the Uptown Hank Mobley set. I have a list of the "Ozzie Cadena holdiings" somewhere but can't locate it right now. I think NYC and Birdland are red herrings.
  3. Remember seeing a large BMW in Boston with a plate reading PU5SY.
  4. If there were 100 trucks in the mix I might crow.
  5. I would find it odd if I was concerned with the vodka race. Not to mention the "flavored" variety. Folks 40 years younger might feel differently.
  6. Ellington "Unknown Session".
  7. The BN disco says '57, unlike the cd package. I'd say the book is correct since the 45 rpm release numbers line up with others from this year. I do have the 45.
  8. That could have been an unissued Alan Bates recording. There are/were a few of them.
  9. Wild Bill was really defensive about that. I think the event dogged him to the grave.
  10. Powers Booth Bootsie Collins Colin Farrell
  11. Detroit Jr. Chicago Jr. Shirley Scott Jr. (I saw this woman!)
  12. It is a myth.
  13. It should look something like this:
  14. The original lps had 2 more tracks.
  15. How was that? Dream line up Friday night was mostly a damp squib for me. Leo played very well, but I could hear little or no effective group interaction. In fact, I almost fell asleep at times. Some (maybe most) of this response or lack of response may have had to do with me, but that's how it felt.
  16. Tonight Wadada, Douglas Ewart and Mike Reed.
  17. I would consider buying new 78s to compare with my "originals". Otherwise, I would accept promos.
  18. Hillside Strangler Arnold Stang Stang Etz
  19. I have never had a "nervious breakdown" but I'm sure you can have one. Break a leg.
  20. How can I rejuvenate the green magic markers that have dried out? Do I really need to buy new ones?
  21. Bunches of "half-truths" in that story.
  22. Did I miss something? Are these going to be 78 rpm? If so, I might buy them though I have the real originals. For Record Store Day in April, Blue Note will also reissue the label’s first two releases as limited edition 12” vinyl: Meade “Lux” Lewis “Melancholy”/”Solitude” (BN1) and Albert Ammons “Boogie Woogie Stomp”/”Boogie Woogie Blues” (BN2).
  23. I hate the direction of marketing for new "classical" music. It makes me question my interests instead of reinforcing them.
