  3. This reminds me - I tried to send a PM to Hans to thank him for birthday wishes and discovered I was blocked. This has bothered me for a while - what gives?
  4. Roscoe has never been an easy listen. He's been a challenge since I first heard him 45 years ago. That's why I like him so much. Like Ellington, Cecil Taylor, Beethoven and a few others, he keeps my mind working to keep up. I love that. I can understand others not wanting to work on that journey. To the recording at hand: I have not had it and only ordered it this weekend - it is to be delivered tomorrow. I had not ordered it 'cause Mr. Mitchell frequently sends me freebies of his new releases - I am still digesting the last Rogue Art set (Contact w/ David Wessel - cd + dvd) and Spectrum with Muhal and the Janacek Philharmonic on Mutable. I also hesitate posting about his releases for fear of some calling them tainted by my close relation.
  5. Well, it was before Miles went electric.

  7. After a phone conversation with a good friend, I'm wondering if dealing with elderly parents is always a test.
  8. I would guess all "brilliant ideas" at PJ came from Bock.
  9. My old copy had a gold cover with black. Don't remember the label color.

  11. Ain't no best. Just a couple thousand opinions. Ain't that great! Lots of favorites though.
  12. Can't comment about getting a blow (out in the middle of AZ or any other state), but it's good to hear from you.
  13. Finally watched the (recorded) final episode of Chicago Code. At least they finished the stories but they compressed half a season into one hour. My head was spinning.
  14. Nice to see is has been officially announced.
  15. \ edit to add: I have had this since it was first issued but had not listened for over 20 years. It was engineered by Malcolm Addey in the Vanguard studio in August of 1984. This is probably the worst representation of Clifford's sound I have ever heard. What a shame.
  16. Hawk was in Europe then. Out of sight, out of mind.
  17. Should we call homeland security?
  18. I should add, I was always interested in who came in later - the magazine usually listed the first ten. That year in the "Label of the Year" category my little operation came in 8th.
  19. The first thing I searched for is incorrect/incomplete! I search because it involved my work. In the 1978 Critics Poll there was a 5 way tie for Album of the Year - they were listed alphabetically: Akiyoshi/Tabackin Insights Ornette Coleman Dancing In Your Head Dexter Gordon Homecoming Dexter Gordon Sophisticated Giant Roscoe Mitchell Nonaah The website only shows Insights. I was really proud to do this well against the promo departments of RCA, Columbia and A&M. edit to add: I emailed this post to Frank Alkyer (publisher), and he responded "On the Critics Poll, I just looked that up and ... YIKES! Someone was working too fast. We'll fix it!
  20. She always seemed "over the top" to me.
  21. These kinds of things give be chills. I was at one about 20 years ago. The best thing was seeing my old friend Rob Friedman from Record People.
  22. Ivory flakes do it too.
  23. Best of luck, but...................
  24. Gee, I ought to alert my old compatriot Albert Marx. Oh crap, he's died. Next up for the alert is William Savory. Shit, he's gone too. She must have been a hell of a woman.
  25. Don't know what masterings they will use for the "new reissues" but the Fearless Leader, Interplay and Side Steps sets sound very fine and have interesting booklets.
