  1. Randy did duos with Art Blakey, then Richard Davis and Griffin played duos, then all four played. Machito's band played a set, then Dizzy's quartet, then all were on stage for "A Night In Tunisia" (Walter Davis on piano) and finally the commission "African Sunrise". I think a couple of board members were there.
  2. Just wondering, what would be the other one? Destry.
  3. I hope Mose wears appropriate clothing to the gig.
  4. BTW, I just relistened to Earth Birth after a week of listening to Norman Granz's string sessions with Benny Carter, Roy Eldridge, Charlie Parker, Johnny Hodges and Ben Webster. I think all these sessions do more for the artists involved, musically and commercially.
  5. The song has ended but the malady lingers on.............
  6. I am a huge Randy Weston fan - when I was with the Chicago Jazz Festival I built a night around him and commissioned a new work - the participants were Johnny Griffin, Richard Davis, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie and Machito's band. I would agree with all said here but I feel you are lucky Earth Birth is available so inexpensively. The format really does not enhance his music in my opinion. He plays like the artist he is but if I was compelled to dispose of 2 of his discs, this would be one.
  7. I should sound fine but vinyl without carbon black, which acts as a lubricant, wears slightly quicker.
  8. Thanks Jeff.
  9. French CBS "Complete Duke Ellington", vol 2, disc 2 (1928-1930). Bunch of stuff not on cd otherwise.
  10. How much for a set not spotted? I'd like a clean one.
  11. The entire NFL is some sort of joke this year.
  12. I'd suggest a few (3 or 4) discs with varying densities.
  13. I agree about Vade Mecum I, but think the 2nd disc is wonderful.
  14. Welcome to your own thread.
  15. Most of the Atlantic titles are available from Collectables for decent prices. Much of the RCA stuff is available from Fresh Sounds.
  16. Happy Birthday! I hope you've stopped taking those steroids.
  17. The album was retitled because Ca'Puranga (Jungle Soul) was a juke box hit.
  18. Does not look like the same woman to me.
  19. As I understand it, Leon Eason provided employment for Ike Quebec when gigs were thin. The BN date was an opportunity for Ike to give Eason some "pay back".
  20. Both are worth having in my book. OTOH, I think all Mobley is worth owning. If you can think of "Reach Out" as a 10" lp, it's a masterpiece.
  21. Another Universal set. Not unexpected.
