  1. He probably gets his "fill" of trios with Keith.
  2. I sang the praises of this cd in a Getz thread last year. Very fine indeed. The only trace of more by this band is the following entry in Bruyninckx: -Stan Getz/Gerry Mulligan- : Stan Getz Quartet : Stan Getz (ts) poss Stanley Cowell (p) Miroslav Vitous (b) Jack DeJohnette (d) c. 1969 Step up, swing out (Stan's blues) J For Jazz JFJ804 Bossanova bauble (Lorraine) - Pitchman (Con alma) - Sandy at the beach (Lover man) - Spain - Bogansville hooks (Desafinado) - Song for Strayhorn (Con alma) - Waltzing Matilda (Wave) - Note : Real titles are between bracets and Gerry Mulligan is not even present on the above session !
  3. I've seen musicians signal fades to the control room on a few occasions.
  4. That seems to have been Lucky's doing. When I licensed "Soul's Nite Out" from Ensayo ( I called the record Body and Soul) I inquired about the fades and asked for the "complete" masters they responded the fades were made during the session at Lucky's signal.
  5. Not counting the early Pathe titles, the Columbia/Brunswick/Master titles (not counting alternates and the small group stuff on Mosaic) runs to 7 cds. I have the Classics and deleted the small group stuff for some cdrs and have 7 discs (180 titles) covering 1931-1940. The Pathe titles were included in the French lp series but will probably be excluded in the future Mosaic box.
  6. I thought Michigan Connection meant something else. Excuse the intrusion. Just want to point out the topic title has changed.
  7. No. The Prestige set was from January and the Storyville is December.
  8. I hear the big bands are coming back too.
  9. Here it is: previous mention
  10. oh I did a search but found nothing... Red might remember where it is/was.
  11. This was mentioned a couple of weeks ago in another thread. Nothing detailed though.
  12. I like the BN Thad sessions AND Compulsion might be my favorite Hill session. The Hill "fades" sound right to me.
  13. NICE! Thanks.
  14. I agree with most of the above. Something not mentioned (unless I spaced on it) was the end of "clear channel" station designations. They cut up the bandwidth and things went downhill. I have two of the GE "super radios" and treasure them. Tubes were only a small part of the equation.
  15. Spent a long day (and night) in a tv studio with him. Mid-evening he was ready to kill John Hammond (subject of the show). "What the FUCK is this shit!" That's a direct quote. He played like a dream. The next night he played a club date with Benny Carter that was sublime. Larry might have been there - I don't remember. My old friend Wilbur Campbell used to do a high-hat thing in tribute to Jo.
  16. The cover is reproduced (in miniature) in the booklet of the Verve 2-fer called "Swing Trumpet Kings". Don't know another source at the moment. I think it would have been fun to hear Red playing with Monk.
  17. are they on the web? Great session with Dicky Wells and Chu Berry. I have it on
  18. Hello Mr Executive Producer Participant.
  19. Don't miss the Luis Russell, Henderson (Fletcher and Horace) or Mills Blue Rhythm sides. Mr Allen is one of my "desert island" artists. I forgot to mention his contributions to the Spike Hughes "american" sessions.
  20. He's had xxix years actually. Not wishing to be picky. (mmvii-mcmlxxviii=xxix) Picky.
  21. It was issued in 1978, so you've had xxx years and Roscoe worked endless hours and I spent around $40,000 (1970s $) and you haven't had the time...................... No wonder I'm underfinanced.
