  1. First buy music. If you do that well your collection will be worth money. Next - I sold an original of Watkins' Transition (missing one label) for $1000 12 years ago. Next - I bought the BN twofer including the above music and 2 more Transition dates for about $20. Now - think about it. Another thing worth noting - Transitions were pressed of friggin' styrene! Personally, I believe the "fetishism" for "originals" has little to do with music. I am interested in music. Call me stupid.
  2. One could die in those thighs.
  3. Every engineer has his habits/tricks. Take the bass - wrap an rca mike in a towel and stuff it under the bridge, place mike xxa six inches in front of the bridge, place mike xxb near the f hole, etc, etc. You can do this stuff for any instrument. They could (and did) eq each instrument to their taste. To remix any session properly requires an understanding of the techniques used, the reason for them and the best way to play them back. Many of these choices were made to compensate for the way the tapes would be interpreted by mastering engineers of the day - and their goals. Not an easy thing to understand if you haven't been working in this area.

I'm sure it didn't sell many copies and it was deleted in about 2 years. Just wanted to point out I was in "big time record retail" at the time and never saw cut-outs of this title. Maybe all 300 went to your locality.
  5. I never thought Dewey dug as deeply into Blackwell's time as possible. Maybe I missed something.
  6. But it might be podcast.

Bought it when issued and never saw it as a cutout. I'd have bought 10 if that had happened.
  10. Not as important as the listening loss.
  11. Steve Allen was Buck Hammer.
  12. Depends if you got it on one disc.
  13. Yes. There was only one pressing. Braxton decided to let it go.
  14. One of the greatest Australian jazzmen. I thought he was a poet.
  15. I should stop posting first thing in the morning...or at all. It's a reference to the thread title: Peanut Butter 2111 Salmonella - Anybody Affected? Check Your Pantry Right.
  16. Bound to happen. Anyone remember Ern Malley?
  17. Which one are you on? Currently in the middle of the orchestra box. Have I mentioned the sides are labeled incorrectly?
  18. As I said in another thread, I'm working through the Braxton Aristas.

Truer words have never been broken.
  20. Absolutely agree. The original tape is a work in progress, not the product.
  21. Other than the length of my post (and maybe some bolding), I thought my take was rather "relaxed" -- all in all. I even gave you the option to suggest that we let it sit for a few more years. You did ask me for advice.
  22. Please relax.
  23. He's just trying to get attention beyond his "fan base". Let it go.
  24. Great cd. But I have an original 78. The cd/lp transfer robs the original of it's bass. The cd sounds good enough to make it the preferred medium but sometimes I play an original for the folks. Edit to say I meant I have a number of the original 78s. The reduced bass is most noticable in the date by the Kansas City Seven. Do not let this comment deter you from the current cd. It is dandy.
