Trying to resist the J&R deal - got a basket full. Also have a full cart at Yourmusic since they finally sent me a message saying my price goes up to 6.99 on the 16th.

Name another "international" BMG/RCA reissue sounding that bad. -
Not sure of the current status of the Classics but they have/had 3 volumes covering the early years. Got 'em and am a happy camper.

Reads like a press release.

New here... is there a "Blue Note Rare Grooves Series" threa
Chuck Nessa replied to JohnBlutarski's topic in Re-issues
Series titles don't mean shit to us. They are only marketing "ploys" to convince the corporate guys the label is trying something "new". -
Praise Jesus!

Liking certain classical performances, like Brendel's Mozart (and his Beethoven, for that matter), certainly seems to be a big no-no on this forum. There is a strong "taste-police" here No "taste police" here, just strong opinions. I think that is great! We never grow if we all agree. What a friggin' dull world it would be if we all posted "Brilliant!" to any member said anything. We have a bunch of people here with many different perspectives and experiences. We should rejoice in that and challenge ourselves when something is mentioned and we don't agree. Back to Brendel and Mozart. For my taste, the Philips recordings are too "mannered". I prefer the "what the hell" recordings of his youth on Vox despite the limited orchestras and sound. My opinion of Brendel's Mozart also extends to the rest of his catalog. I do have all the Vox recordings and like most of them without calling most of them "great". The Philips recordings are interesting and well recorded.

I bought the original on Durium back in the day (one benefit of being an old fart). Nice indeed. Never saw/heard the Copenhagen recordings. SteepleChase probably has copies of the tapes.

That cd omitted one title from the Bradford/Carter record AND there was a 2nd Bradford/Carter titled Self Determination Music on Flying Dutchman. That's good to know. Was Self Determination Music by the same quartet? Bruz Freeman and Tom Williamson are, in my book, the most unsung "rhythm" section in the entirety of music. Sorry to not be posting on topic. -_- Same band. It's been a while since I played it. Might be a second bass player - just foggy memory. -

Lol, can you confirm the track listing on your CD please. There are several CDs listed on Amazon with the same title but with different covers so I want to make sure I order the right one. I'm not Lon (or Lol) but I do have the cd. As listed on the disc: 1. The Song Is You 2. O Grande Amor 3. For Jane 4. Dane's Chant 5. Major General 6. Folk Tune for Bass 7. Tonight I Shall Sleep Desafinado 8. All the Things You Are 9. Summer Night 10. One Note Samba

Once again I echo my daughter Clementine.

Sadly, nothing there I'd want to buy.

Do you know this from professional experience?

Forget famous pianists. If you want a 20th century version (different than the original instrument crowd) I suggest the Naxos series by Jeno Jando. REALLY! Anyone wanting the Uchida/Tate version, email me. I will send it for "postage".

There should be a bunch of Rek-o-k(c?)ut tables around in stores. They used to be "everywhere". Try junk stores. Wish I'd picked one up.

Am I the only person to think Red and Monk would have been wonderful? Could be - it happened before when I tried to put together a duo session with Earl Hines and Ruby Braff. Stanley Dance and Dan Morgenstern told me I was out of my mind. I still regret taking their advise.

My introduction to Tony Scott was a Seeco lp called The Modern Art of Jazz. It was recorded the year Brownie met the man. This session included Clark Terry, Jimmy Knepper, Sahib Shihab, Bill Evans, Milt Hinton, Henry Grimes and Paul Motian. It seems the session yielded 3+ lps of material and would be a good beginning for a "Select". Tony's (self produced?) sessions around this time are a mess and need a smart guide to sort it all out.

I think Diz taught rhythm patterns to many people in many hotels in many parts of the globe.

So who's the bummed guy - a volunteer singer waiting for his shot?

Reminds me the last time I saw him - Bleecker St carrying his drums to a gig. Such a happy cat at the time.

I feel lucky. Almost 4 years ago our mortgage had about 3 years left but we had credit card debt, an outstanding business loan and needed a new roof. We rolled it all together in a 15 year deal at 4.5.
