  1. FWIW, I know one "exec" at a jazz label who was "let go" and he moved to an island to rest in luxury for the rest of his life as the result of his "benefit package". This is a guy I wouldn't hire to direct traffic.
  2. Guess I'm amazingly lucky. My wife likes (deals with) all the music and musicians. Not saying she understands everything but she has been by my side for 40+ years. Guess I'm really lucky.
  3. While I still have memories of my youth, I really don't understand all the reverent postings for adolescent yearnings.
  4. Clem, I've driven thru about 20 Iowa counties (4 times) in the last couple of months - where were you. I searched "the Ledges" and found no trace.
  5. They don't have a leg to stand on.
  6. YES! This and the other Columbia boxes of the time - Henderson, Lang/Venuti, Holiday (2) and Ellington (2) - were my introduction to the multi-disc era.
  7. All the best, you knucklehead.
  8. The question should be "Whose school is good in jazz." "Who's" is a contraction of "who is." "Whose" is possessive. Guess whose the teacher!
  9. Nope, I've had all my shots.
  10. "Between places" has been Joe's way of life.
  11. The problem with all these companies is the size of staff (count the credits listed on a typical Verve VME release) and the inflated (entertainment biz) pay these folks received.
  12. As I understand it, a bank wound up with the Riverside holdings and eventually created Orpheum to "showcase" the label for sale. It seemed to work.
  13. Go for it Randy!
  14. Dick Spottswood Skip James Jimmy James
  15. Now, go eat some fish.
  16. Go do laundry.
  17. I resolve to make it to next year.
  18. You might have said that 400 paragraphs earlier.
  19. I consider that question totally irrelevant Not to the question at hand. Remember the topic.
  20. I just never warmed to Abercrombie's sound. Since he just dialed it up on his instrument, I blame him. Can anyone name a great solo by him? Not a record date but a single performance.
  21. Jack Whittemore Miles Davis Spencer Davis
  22. That was my first reaction as well. Is Mosaic entering the recording/production business? yes.
  23. Hope this makes OC happy. Beyond that it don't mean shit.
  24. I'd guess they have tons of good live material but they think another studio date will best represent the Organissimo they want to sell.
