Don't know about Chandos. You are probably thinking of Unicorn. They had a 2 disc set of 1-8 and a single of 9-13. At the time I felt she dropped off at the end of her career and never bothered to get the late quartets disc. I see all 3 discs are reissued in an inexpensive set on Regis. It's available from Berkshire for $12. More props for Smetana.

Beyond "concerts", where tables were set up in the lobby, I only recall one jazz musician selling records on a gig. That one musician was Art Pepper - on the comeback trail. Laurie frequently had a box of Contemporary lps on a table.

I feel the later Holiday is a deeper communicator than the "fresh voiced" singer on the early sides. I would never consider being without either.

Fans of the Bartok quartets could do worse than investigating the work of Elizabeth Maconchy. I have her first 8 quartets.

FWIW, my taste in Beethoven leans toward the "severe" - hence my taste for Schnabel and Rosen. Next comes an interest in the "mercurial" with '50s Kempff and early Brendel. After that my interest falls off quickly. I can imagine a "romantic" cycle by Fischer but it doesn't seem to exist.

These are the ones from the '60s (see here). Any thoughts on those? (FWIW, the sound in this set is said to be excellent, belying it's vintage, which you can sort of tell in the AMG samples.) The sound was very good on the '60s recordings and these are the better versions. Just not my cup of tea.

Not a fan of the Arrau / Philips / Beethoven recordings. There are multiple recordings and the later the worst (IMHO). The DG Gilels Beethoven never caught my attention but I welcome other viewpoints.

In the mid '70s UA pressed a bunch of '10 and '12 inch lps for shipment to Japan. The "leftovers" were sold as cutouts in the US. I had 'em all at one point. All I have left are the pressings of 5036 - Urbie Green, 5059/5060 - Best From the West and 5066 - Hank Mobley Quartet.
