Cruising towards half a million posts
Chuck Nessa replied to ghost of miles's topic in Forums Discussion
By way of a prize, he gets 500,000 added to his post count--right? Nah, he just gets his option picked up for another year. AND full forum privileges. -
Coltrane Complete Prestige Box
Chuck Nessa replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Many reasons mentioned are part of the deal but I'd bet the real reason it's going away is they ran out of books and boxes. The reprinting cost would not be supported by sales. -
Quartet Out Meets Free For All

Sounds like you had an imposter. -
In my previous post I neglected to say Malachi was always a fine gentleman (in the best way) and a fine musician. I think his best quality was as a salesman for HIS music. Not a bad thing at all. Rest in peace Mr. Thompson.

About a month ago (June 19) Uncle Skid and I were in the Delmark studio and Steve Wagner explained the studio was a mess (organ and monitors in the hallway, etc) because Malachi had been recording his big band.

My Vol. 2 has the same design.

Hidden hoard of live rock to be released

I'm sure we will see something but there will be insurmountable roadblocks for many projects. Depends how deep the pockets are/ -
Hidden hoard of live rock to be released

If you'd been involved it stuff like this before, you might have a different view. Any one of those (and other) folks can file a suit (for minimal bucks) and drag stuff out. -
On the other hand.... The last 10 (or so) years have had the most music "in print" in my lifetime. I'm certainly no promoter of the majors but they have shoveled tons of product our way. How many of you expected a "first class" reissue of Slim Gaillard's Dot album? I believe the shrinking market for cds has paid off well for the jazz customer, if not for the music itself.

Hidden hoard of live rock to be released

Beyond artists rights are the rights of "venue", labels, managers, promoters and (depending on the sales contracts) the folks/label/corp owning the artists' contracts at the time of recording. Did I mention the recording engineer(s)? Did Graham have a "contractual understanding" with him? Fun, fun, fun. -
Don't remember "whinging" about anything. My problem is not $100.

I suggest culling the following pieces from discs 2 & 3 for the iPod: Doin' the Voom Voom Rent Party Blues Paducah Harlem Flat Blues Jungle Jamboree Jolly Wog Sweet Mama Double Check Stomp Mood Indigo Rockin' In Rhythm Creole Rhapsody

The JSP set was remastered in the late '80s. The sound is fine but not to the level of work he was doing by the end of his life.

As usual, Topography is more talked about than listened to! Bailey and Parker were/are fine fellows, and I'm sure occasional "dicks" though I never experienced that. Be happy the recording is available again and let it go at that.

what rvg titles are you referring to? i saw none included in the summer blowout sale, just k2s and limited editions. The new 2 cd Monk/Trane is not on the sale. No RVGs are on the sale. From the Concord site: "Special bundled pricing applies only to the discontinued titles included in the Summer Blowout Sale section of the online store. All sales are final."

That license has terminated.

I paid around $35 for the only Clarence Williams Classics title I didn't own. When you have invested in 13, you HAVE to get the last one.

Was there an earlier version of vol 2? I bought it in the '60s. Never saw a Polydor copy.

AOTW - Monk with Trane - Complete 1957 Riversides
Chuck Nessa replied to GA Russell's topic in Album Of The Week
Since I have loved this music for 47 years and it still seems GREAT to me, I feel sorry for you. Not meant as an insult, just regret. Maybe I just don't understand your "relationship" with music. -
