As I said earlier, it was a UA date.

I got the King lp when issued and dumped it long ago.

It sold a bunch, that's all. Maybe my 25th favorite Morgan date. Rumproller is probably 26.

They vote awards for themselves every year.

Uncle Skid and I were on the road Monday and stopped for dinner at a "Texas Steak House". Skid had concerns about the Hummer in the parking lot but we went in anyway. Our waitress said "beer sale tonight - all draws are $1 and a tall one is $1.50. We asked what was available and she said "Bud, Bud Lite and Killians". We ordered "tall" Killians and she said "That one isn't on sale". We said ok. She delivered what seemed to be 2 liter mugs! It took 2 hands to get the mug to my mouth. The meal wasn't very good either. On the way out we spotted another Hummer in the lot and Skid created another "law" - never eat a a place that plays country music and has Hummers in the lot.

Hill is currently riding a "popularity" peak (partially 'cause of his health, and partially his recent good press for Passing Ships, the Select and the "new date) and TF isn't. For my own tastes, all the Hills mentioned are more interesting than the unissued UA date from 1959.

Only doobies rolling. It is a fairly boring date and wouldn't sell much over 700 copies in the US.

Easy answer for me - Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra 1934-1940. This was an amazing body of work, currently ignored since it isn't easily available (and this era of Ellington doesn't have a marketable name). If we are really lucky they will send tons of promos to the internet critics and history will be corrected.

They must have been in the possession of Ed Michel.

And I have had an ARS pressing in a Verve jacket for 40 years. This is a wonderful date.

Great stuff. I remember buying the new release in college. First met him around this time. All the Desmond recordings are worthy. As a side note, at various times talking to RVG he said "well, he was special" when I mentioned a musician. The three times I remember were discussions about Dolphy, Coltrane and Desmond.

Coles is one of the featured artists on the new BN Gil Evans set. I also suggest searching out I prefer it to the BN. The BN is a fine date but I always considered it Duke Pearson's session. Johnny and Frank Wess made a wonderful date for Uptown which I hope will be reissued soon. Saw him any number of times with the Ellington band too.

You might as well go for it. Decent session but no Nichols personality is evident. He plays ok piano on an ok date. It's a better "conversation piece" than "find". I'm happy I have it.

My largest order was the first. Lps of Albert Ammons/Meade Lux Lewis, Thelonious Monk and the Gerry Mulligan quartet with Chet Baker. Alway bought one at a time after that.

I see Paul Secor is responding - we might duplicate info. Why Not was started by Kenny Inaoka (and others?) around 1975. They were distributed by Trio (if not owned by them) and made a fine series of dates in good sound. Fine label.

Certainly from xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo. Save your money for other stuff you don't have.
