  1. I tend to agree. For my taste, start with Dialogue (and sideman dates at the time) and my interest drops as the years go by. He became a generic "note spinner" very quickly. This date is about the end of the line for me. Nice technique though.
  2. Frequently disagree with Akanalog but at least he listens and has reasons for his likes and dislikes.
  3. All the best sir. You seem to be a pleasure for many of us. Thanks.
  4. Don't know the K2 but I remember someone (Claude?) complaining about the SACD version being inferior to the K2. Of course I have the SACD.
  5. And Fogerty, of course... It's common knowledge that Fogarty has retroactively changed the spelling of his name in order to invalidate his previous contacts. Just how "important" can one dude imagine himself? I do understand "bucks is bucks" but give me a break. Without Fantasy he'd be working a bar tonight.
  6. Yeah, the whole thing reads a lot differently than did that opening paragraph. I still think that the guy's writing froma "Feed Me" type fan perspective, but to his credit, he seems to have good taste in what it is that he wants to be fed. It sounds like he's spent some time around Andrew.
  7. Those things are there so you can read the titles without flipping through the stack. I am rarely in cd stores anymore but appreciate the "strips" when browsing. Move to the EU and escape them but deal with copy protection on the earlier titles (as I understand it). Life's a bitch. Be happy you don't have to sit around and pick flys off your newborn.
  8. Right, and this goes back to about 1969, I think (15 years before that Chicago recording). That was a huge hit, and I see that a lot of other artists have used the phrase in different songs (Janet Jackson comes up big in a Google search). I'm wondering now, though, where/when that phrase really originated (whether in song or otherwise...). I'd bet real money it was used in the late '20s - early '30s by some "country" blues artist(s).
  9. The third bass is electric! Isn't that illegal? Only in the American League.
  10. The third bass is electric!
  11. For starters, the most interesting Concord dates are deleted.
  12. Way too much of a decent thing for that kind of money. Endow a student soccer team instead.
  13. I'm in the same boat. I don't dislike the Tony Williams stuff, but it never really reached me either. This CD, however, is really something. Might be my favorite new release this year so far, along with the Andrew Hill. For me, this trio seems much more "traditional"(probably not the right word) than what Tony Williams/Larry Young/John M. were doing. Goldings is definatley keeping it more grounded. There's more of a groove here than what Lifetime was going for. This band was inspired by Lifetime, but is up to something completely different. I really like Goldings on this, and Jack D. is just so killing it. I think Tony and Larry would be spinning in their graves.
  14. So, we aren't up to Kind of Blue or Giant Steps yet? Geez!
  15. Before or after the cd of Styx tunes? Don't worry, Chuck. That one will see the light of day soon, with full credits to you as producer and "conceptualizer". But who's the "decider"? Get my name out of there - Big Al is the decider/whatever.
  16. Edward Heath Harold Wilson Anthony Eden Richard Burton Richard Petty Richy Perry Perry Como Lake Como Artur Schnabel
  17. THIS THREAD IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF TOO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS. What if you had to go dig roots for your family's meal tonight?
  18. And it had a neat cover. Chico looked "in charge".
  19. Before or after the cd of Styx tunes?
  20. Some see "interdepartment memos" while others see "writing on the wall".
  21. Way to kill a thread! Please say "hi" to her.
  22. Don't matter if you got the lps.
  23. How about sticking to things the "domestic" company hasn't done yet - All American, Bal Masque, the Paris album, Girl's Suite, etc.
