  1. You might have made the wrong choice but I not tuned into your hormone levels (thank the gods).
  2. Y'all know I paid Jim for this.
  3. Nice thoughts but this is a bit unsettling. I should also point out there are/were a couple of musicians "not so happy". Thanks.
  4. Both sides are/were pressed at the same time. See what I mean about this "info" driving me nuts.
  5. Brick Fleagle Froebel Bingham Bing Crosby
  6. This "deep groove" shit drives me nuts. It only is the kind of mold/tools for stampers and record presses. Don't have shit to do about the quality but it can date some pressings if you know the plant. I've had plenty of pressings with a "deep groove" on one side and not on the reverse. I want some "serious collector" to 'splain that.
  7. Gary Frommer Garry Moore Brew Moore
  8. FWIW, "fold downs" are rarely just a simple blending of right and left. If the producer has any "smarts" at all there is a ton of re-balancing going on. Stereo mix repros for "production" are also rarely just "left and right". Much thought and work goes into this.
  9. The flaw in your (and the Hoffman crew's) thinking relates to possible deterioration of the stereo tapes while the "fold downs" are intact. Never leave the decisions in the hands of the engineers.
  10. "Singer" tell me to stay away. Rely on your playing. "Singers" also spell "lame debut" to me. Count your blessings. Too many times an "artist" tries too many things on a debut release. Rely on "your" talent.
  11. Only thing "modern" is some of the players alive. Otherwise they are playing in styles "set" in the middle of the last century.
  12. Let's not encourage this. Too many board members already recommend recordings by "amoebas".
  13. Saw Hank a few times during his stay in Chicago. Once in a church with his "working band" of Muhal Richard Abrams, Frank Gordon, Rufus Reid and Wilbur Campbell. Once in an all-star deal put on by Joe Segal - Hank, Jug, Hank Crawford, (maybe) Von Freeman and a good rhythm section. Don't think it was the concert pictured, but maybe. Hank was always friendly and "cool" when I encountered him.
  14. Isn't the cd a "needle drop"? Am I thinking of another title?
  15. Me too, since that was my choice last month and they said it was out of stock and shipped number 2 - Booker Ervin.
  16. Used to be a few but think they have been deleted. Not completely sure but they have been going away. Just ordered the K2 of Dolphy's Far Cry from Caiman (via amazon). They say it shipped 2 days ago.
