  1. Nah, the musicians need to be scared to death - afraid of messing up, missing a change, turning the time around and just not having an idea. Then you might get a great recording IF you have great MUSIC in you.
  2. You can listen to the '50s stuff while scraping the bugs off your teeth.
  3. COP-OUT!
  4. You're preaching to the choir.
  5. Alcohol, drugs or reality - depending on your relationship with each of these.
  6. Why do you refuse to talk about his hair?
  7. Barney Fife is a hero. Was Barney in Dingleberry or Mayberry? I can never keep that straight... And did you know that Charlene Darling was a jazz singer? YES.
  8. Screw the literary questions. This thread made me dig out a concert recording of the band + guests Lacy and George Lewis (got it a few years ago courtesy of a member) from August of '83. All Herbie Nichols tunes for about an hour. Great stuff. I'd love to hear the band in a club.
  9. Sorry to see Dan advocating dumping on a "dingleberry cop" for being one. I have much more sympathy for the state/local cops. They are the real "front line fighters" for the citizenry. Barney Fife is a hero. As soon as I heard this story I thought "this MF has been messing with his wife and she did what she thought she had to do to escape". Guess I'm either a liberal or a fag. We will see how the story develops and Danny boy can come back and beat me up for "whatever".
  10. Need to spend a bit of time in a good studio Kevin. With a 2 track tape (even mono) and a good board coupled with a bank of "racked gadgets" behind you, one can do lots of shinola. I do agree "mix" is not the right word but one can change "perspectives" and divert attention elsewhere.
  11. He seems to have cool hair.
  12. Was Randy singing "My Way"?
  13. Looks like Jim found sumphin' funky on his keyboard.
  14. I think they are just trying to stay in business like a bunch of us.
  15. It must be a grove by now.
  16. I rarely buy anything on Amazon unless it is from a "marketplace" merchant (or whatever they call it) 'cause the prices are too high. Their site is a good resource though.
  17. Used overdubbing on a couple of my projects. Ira Sullivan dueted with himself on his project and multi-instrumentalist Brian Sandstrom added a guitar solo (on top of his bass playing) on the Hal Russell "Generation" date. Brian actually added the part more than a year after the fact.
  18. IIRC, Bradford told me the photo was taken at a rehearsal, not a recording session.
  19. The America lp was reissued on a Musidisc cd in 1993.
