  1. Xanadus too.
  2. I believe he spells it Brieff. He conducted the premier of the 5 movement version of Mahler's 1st symphony. It was with the New Haven Symphony and was issued on Odyssey.

Sorry, I just got the shivers.
  4. Gotta part ways here. I rank em late BNs, early Milestones, early BNs. The Milestones are excellent at their best, but like akanalog I get a little ear fatigue. Maybe it's the production. The late BNs seem to have a bit more space. Plus you have both Wayne and Gary in the front line on two of those. Guy ← The "raw energy" of the first couple of Milestones made me go back and relisten to the late BNs at the time. Milestone production values were below BN but McCoy was "on fire". Too bad it didn't last.
  5. You are supposed to wait for Danny.
  6. That might be 'cause the Coltrane estate gets all the money.
  7. The first couple of Milestones are really good, but do not reflect the real quality of his band at the time. McCoy was a MF then and nobody really knows it. I remember being at a McCoy gig - next to me was Cecil Taylor and he was jumping up and down - yelling. It was a great night.
  8. IX - 9 - you damn intellektules kill me. The music's so nice, you had to play it twice.
  9. I think Don used to post here under the name of Weizin.

that is organissimo's fault? we lost a bunch of people with the "upgrade" and everyone else is at fault.
  11. Just buy Fosters. It's available here for around $.62 a case and is my favorite refreshment of the moment.

If Larry Kart was here he could tell you a story about Ella!

Funny you should mention hiding. Last time I saw her was at the Chicago fest when I was "running" it. She latched on to the limo driver we sent to the airport and she would not let him go for a couple of days. This very pretty black guy looked to me for help and I had to bow out. Go SV!

She had that kind of "effect" on lots of folks. Strong woman, that one. From what I saw she could make me look for a job as a Wal-Mart greeter!
  15. FWIW, Agfa 525 was the exact tape I received of the AEC recordings from Pathe Marconi in 1970. Would the same formulation/designation be in use 12/13 years later? It is professional tape. The price is nuts, but it is worth something if an original.
  16. Used to have it on lp, didn't know it was reissued at all.
  17. I had no idea he was still alive!
  18. This weekend I played a fine Bud Freeman lp with Arvanitas on organ. Pierre Michelot is on it too.
  19. Been searching Half.com and Amazon for (mostly) oop Black Lion/Jazz Hour/Jazz Life/Jazz Colours titles. About a dozen on the way.
  20. Have not had a martini in about 25 years but I used to be addicted to the drink Al mentioned in the first post.
  21. Maker's Mark in a cheap imitation Jack. Manhattans are good on pancakes.
  22. Wild Bill Davis "Midnight to Dawn" on RCA Victor.
  23. Bill Potts.
  24. Bruce Lundvall's exit from Columbia had some effect. He went to Elektra and Dexter and Woody followed.
