  1. Don't think I'm mentioned anywhere but I still say "buy it".
  2. "Not really dark or brooding" in the friggin' extreme.
  3. Back in the '60s I listened and rejected. If I made a huge mistake I will hear about it.
  4. Sorry to be so late but all the best Alan. I know how tough these personal things can be. All the best..........
  5. Did anyone recommend rolling them in flower and deep frying? Tasty!
  6. Webern, Schoenberg and Berg quartets. Carter - almost anything.
  7. Sometimes the documentary makes are the "big dogs". I received a call from Ken Burns production office asking for permission to use something in the jazz series they did. I was simply told if I didn't sign "for free" they'd just cut it out.
  8. I thought the 6 cylinders would ruin his rep, so I smashed 'em.
  9. I heard Maren and Lankin have Big Al tied up in the back room and make him watch. They email photos to Simon.

  11. Sumpin' blocking your memory?
  12. Nine pages of this if you copy and paste to Word.
  13. If Larry Kart is still here, he will have a few pages to type about this record.
  14. Earl Hines "Quintessential Recording Session" on Halcyon 101/Chiaroscuro 101. This should be on cd. Earl at the top of his game in 1970, revisiting his 1928 milestones. It don't get much better.
  15. I probably have that interview somewhere in the basement but want to recommend/warn about the amazing Bowie interview in the AEC book sold on their website. If you knew Lester you would read the piece very differently than a "newbie" would interpret it. For me, Lester's interview repays the cost of the book.
  16. Looks like my modest little catalog did pretty well. Thanks. edit to change from mosest to modest. Bad fingers.
  17. Spending some buck on a discography would answer your question.
  18. So, what did you do with John's money? Is it gone? Will you ever satisfy his desires?
  19. Is this website error a human disaster? What about Pakistan, the "south coast" hurricanes, wildfires in the west, global warming, terrorist attacks in the Russian south, Paris Hilton cancelled!
  20. Not meaning to hijack the thread, but to push Gravatt, before Weather Report he worked/toured with McCoy. I heard him a few times in this context and he was a MF!
  21. I'll never forget..... more than you can imagine. Like watching the last episode of "The Fugitive" with him and Roscoe in our living room. Like interrupting a recording session to tell him Fontella had given him a new baby. Like driving his emerald green, vintage Bentley on Michigan Avenue, with him screaming "run over the motherfuckers" at stop lights. Like the time he called to ask me to send a copy of "People In Sorrow" to Bill Cosby after his son was killed. I have not even mentioned the musical delights.
  22. The world's a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown shoes. ← My favorite line of all time!
  23. For me it is Rod Cless, Dave Pochonet, Louis Smith, Joe Cocker and Cher! Others of note are Ron Reagan, Danny Aiello and George Gobel (bless his heart).
  24. I think I wet myself! NO, Wait! I just spilled some beer. Nevermind.
