I started with Ellington, Armstrong, Rollins and Gillespie in the late '50s. Then I went to Down Beat (it was very worthwhile then) and bought books. Trial and error with record purchases was my most faithful guide. Unfortunately, "commercial" sites with bbs get much more attention than I consider "healthy". Note when the BNBB started dissing BN product, the board went away. "What's available on the net" is a very poor guide to an education.

Part of this "problem" is all the dickheads who buy the same recordings over and over. Look around and see if you can find one.

First of all, he does not have any stock and second he doesn't have time to operate the "nuts and bolts" of a record company. That's why I do what I do. I ship to Canadians for $15 post paid, just like they were Americans "like us".

December 2, 2001 he and Gerry Hemingway were brought to town for a broadcast at WBLV. For whatever reason, I couldn't make the session and have always regretted it.

Time for me to be the "TURD IN THE PUNCH BOWL". Did not care for these recordings "years ago" and won't spend money now. I'm posting this as some sort of reinforcement for folks on the fence.

US Verve reissued it in 1994. Total number of tracks was 12 with a playing time of 73:46. Is this what they offer? FWIW, I find $10 downloads without "artwork and liners" to be a rip, unless the president of Universal is at the control panel.

Find a piano. Forget your organ. You can usually find one for little or nothing. Moving it is more than the owner wants to spend. If you are lucky, you will find a Steinway upright. After you get the instrument, work on it yourself - it will add to your music appreciation.

It's really a tie. Year to year one would lead, then the other.

Concerning Prestige, Groove Holmes' Soul Message (and other couplings with Misty) was gigantic in the last half of the '60s and I didn't witness any other Prestige session selling in such quantities. No telling what time has done to the sales numbers vs. other "classics".

The only Strata East record to have significant sales was Gil Scott-Heron's Winter In America. It was huge by jazz standards and almost brought the label down. I think the Slugs records outsold the Music Inc record mentioned.
