  1. The Delmark received mixed reviews but I like it. The standards records with Hank Jones (they were on Magenta) always gave me the heebie jeebies.
  2. Funny. I received the same notice today. Happy to retire my elderly lp.
  3. Hey, we'd all just eaten a huge breakfast. The main thing is we all look reasonably alert and reasonably bright. PhotoShopping to show our heads was a remote possibility.
  4. L-R Free For All, CN, Rooster Ties, Eric
  5. Well, I'm finally catching up and want to respond about our KC visit. We really enjoyed meeting Tom, Eric, Paul and JoDee. What an interesting bunch of folks. I'd love to spend a long evening with every one of them with some good music and a drink or two. It was an interesting experience for Craig - he (like the rest of the family) has no understanding of my interests/business and wondered how or why anyone in KC would meet with us. He and his family have lived in the KC area all their adult lives - he works at Tension Envelope and Winnie is an exec at Hallmark. Thanks to all for the wonderful time and thanks to Rooster for the music - I've only listened to the first disc so far but it is a dandy. If any of the participants want a higher quality file of the pic, let me know. PS: Craig commented on Rooster's "really good voice" when we sang Happy Birthday!
  6. IIRC they were issued in pairs in 1960 and 1961.
  7. Copied from an old American Federation of Musicians Phonograph Record Labor Agreement: Location Recordings The Company shall give prior notice to the Office of the Federation President and to the Local of the Federation involved prior to making any recording on location during public performance. Location recording work shall be paid for at the rate of one basic session for each day of recording (from noon to the following noon). During any such day, no more than a total of three hours of performance shall be recorded. If more than fifteen minutes of recorded music is released for sale from each such three hours of recorded performance, the Company shall make additional payments equal to the regular hourly rate of pay for each additional five minutes of recorded music (or fraction thereof) released for sale. Guess it was simpler than I implied.
  8. Simple answer is yes. Club engagement and recording are two different employers. The "live recording session" rules are/were weird. Much more complicated answer when I have more time.
  9. Think I'll have me some waffles.
  10. Thanks for that. Ira has told me any number of times this is his favorite recording. I have the masters and hope to reissue it some day. I would include a wonderful bonus blues.
  11. BS - you should be grateful someone thinks enough to try for a profit off the disc.
  12. Been trying to ignore these dang birthday threads but I can't ignore this one. Have a dandy day.
  13. It's a dial-up. What do you think?
  14. Yup! You can compare the Madge version with the Ogdon (Chuck, were you at the Madge Chicago performance?) Not a Madge fan - I admire his "pluck" but not the results. I'm sure Ogdon's (sometimes wayward) recording will be surpassed but don't think I will live to hear it (or afford it).
  15. Sorabji's Opus Clavicembalisticum.
  16. That's what happens when the producer chooses the sidemen.

    ears...

    What?
  18. E. Power Biggs. Or as Mrs Biggs called him "Biggsie" - no lie. She used to call the record store in Cambridge asking for him. "Is Biggsie there"?
  19. Can't wait 'til you are on the road lookin' for something as good as Popeye's or Subway.
  20. I forwarded this thread to (my good friend) Donald Clarke and hope he responds. Somewhere I have pages and pages from him ranting about "the archives" and dealing with "thieves". Come on DC, unload.
  21. All 8 are on Johnny Dodds 1926 on Classics.
  22. So........Treet is sub-Spam - Tang must be sub-Treet. What is sub-Tang?
  23. I hope they don't hit the Norvo masters!
