  1. I always knew you were on something. Time was not my first choice. B-)
  2. Under the pressure of the "rules", I fail. Big Friggin' S'prise. "Real" music bought for the first time this year is (subject to additions): Cecil Taylor - Feel Trio - 2 Ts for a lovely T Warne Marsh - Live At Dana Point Roscoe Mitchell - Solo 3 That's a bunch of music. It may take the rest of my life to digest it.
  3. I fear after 6 hours my wife would have to chip the sugar crust off so I could move again.
  4. Used to be a Vienna stand next to my office in Chicago.
  5. It's probably Universal's marketing director.
  6. It was VERY different in the early '70s. I would have had "mike time".
  7. I will dent any chicken you bring to me!
  8. Couple of times I "supposedly" missed the last cut for nomination. Guess I've always been "just outside". Fine with me, without any "dis" for the real winners. GREAT for them. CA busted his back on the Bessie reissues. I also have tons of respect for Phil's achievement. If I'd ever won a grammy, I'd have been a real asshole at the mike.
  9. A big YES to all "org(y)" members.
  10. Yeah... sure.. and I bet there's no Santa, either.... HEY! The man ate chicken in my house. More than you have done.
  11. I hope you all understand, really understand he's not a ghost. I have met him and he is a regular human! Wonderful guy, just no ghost. Is that clear? Hope it was a great day!
  12. Let us check his "papers" before we get carried away with celebrations. B-)

    John Young

John joined the Andy Kirk band in 1943 and stayed a couple of years. Fats Navarro, Howard McGhee and Jimmy Forrest were in the band at the time. John is a delight.
  14. If this goes to court they will have to prove "confusion". A jumper cable company would be in trouble but a yogurt stand would be ok.
  15. My weapon is loaded and I'll be on the alert for these folks. Thanks for the tip.

    Teddy Charles

The Lowe book sounds wonderful - probably 18 readers waiting for a book like this (me included) and the rest go to libraries. I do not mean this as a slam in any way - just a reflection of the times. Damn, I hope it happens. No one has responded to my "lack of interest" in Charles as a player. I stated I had no interest in his playing but thought he was a good organizer. If you can point me to some good/great playing, let me know.
  17. Montana with Jack Walrath, and friends from home. It's on Labor.
  18. Chris, that was YOU I saw in the Village wearing the pendants!
  19. What about Spam with cloves and TaterTots?
  20. Say what?
  21. Bet you can't stop dancin'. I'm very happy for you.
  22. But not all that good. I think Burning Spirits sucks big time.

    Teddy Charles

From what I have seen (or heard) Mister Charles is much brighter than his playing. I mean he never "got to me" as an instrumentalist, but his "projects" do. I did not play for a good reason.
  24. So now we have a David Gates/Joe Henderson thread.
  25. Nat's a very smart guy, decent observer of the scene and a very fine writer. I disagree with him at times but read everything I see.
