  1. Danny, I agree Fathead is the right guy (or Hank Crawford). I'm saying I find the timing less than tasteless. I'd bet money the label had the idea. If Fathead wants to do a "tribute date" he could wait, plan, write, arrange and present a killer disc for all of us. Why do you insist on making these things personal?
  2. I think all 3 are worthy of comparison but I no longer have a copy of Terry's date.
  3. I searched in vain (Whitehall, Montague and Story City too) for the appropriate smilie.
  4. Am I late? (nah, that's someone else). Is the beer gone? HB.
  5. I Hear A Rhapsody Embraceable You I Never Knew These Foolish Things Our Love Is Here To Stay I Cover The Waterfront What's New Old Folks Bean And The Boys Strange Blues Outburst
  6. Brothers and Other Mothers vol 1 has 8 more Eager tracks - 4 with Ed Finckel, Bob Carter and Max Roach (10/22/48) and 4 with Terry Gibbs, Duke Jordan, Curley Russell and Max (7/15/47).
  7. No. Only here.
  8. If those "ticks" really exist, they must be dubbed from the pressing I sold to a Japanese dealer for $1000.
  9. Under the current policies of the companies involved, you will not see a set mixing EMI masters (PJ) and Universal (Mercury). The best outcome would be a Mercury set.
  10. This may be delayed while I work on the 6 minute version for one of our members.
  11. Jack, it has been redone twice since then. All is finished now and going to the designer on Monday. The last piece of the puzzle was the newspaper ad for the concert. Looks like Coleman Hawkins and Slam Stewart were "no shows" for the gig. Liner notes by Ira Gitler, a note about getting the discs by Bob and a technical note from mastering engineer Ted Kendall.
  12. If you had read more than the last few posts you would have understood this is not a thread about 6 minutes.
  13. The others are sideman recordings from other Musicraft records.
  14. You should never respond to a thread without READING it.
  15. All of the 20 tracks from the Musicraft cd are included in the recent Savoy set. The Guild label was purchased by Musicraft so you have to count them as well.
  16. Are you sure this is a Metronome date? I thought they started in 1940.
  17. My current fave is by Guy Lafitte, Wild Bill Davis and Alvin Queen.
  18. Too late. No more delays, PLEASE.
  19. Go ahead and get the Sackville - fine recording. You will be attracted to the side with Holland but spend some time with the other side. Rewards are wonderful things.
  20. DUH! I will make the correction and make you look like a friggin' idiot.
  21. It is interesting to compare these dates to the Kenny Dorham sessions on Afro-Cuban.
  22. Great question. I want to direct you to a chapter/intro to a wonderful book assembled by Frank Driggs and Harris Lewine called Black Beauty White Heat. This (mostly) photo book has an early entry about collectors/fans meeting Al Lion and Frank Wolff that is worth the price you have to pay. Find the book somewhere.
  23. Some folks drive in a perpetual fog.
