  1. They do have the notes from the original Blue Notes and are licenced to Time-Life Records, Barcelona from Blue Note which is clearly documented on the disc and several times on the back inlay and booklet insert. They are legit.
  2. Great news! You know that hardly anyone goes over to the Blue Note Board anymore.
  3. OUT2LUNCH Catesta is it true that you are related to "Sitar Great", Ravi Shankar?
  4. For variety sake, the Turrentine is my pick. The Stitt is good in small doses and the Jones is dead last in my personal preference.
  5. Yeah and you still never found out what her favorite color was-anyway!
  6. Blurb on the Mosaic website announces that the Bennie Green and Randy Weston Mosaics are in house and will begin shipping today,May 19th.
  7. Ahwww, see Now, you've taken all the Fun out of it!
  8. If this attitude will be the driving force behind the new and improved ("re-opening soon") Blue Note Board, I don't see many of the old regime getting beyond the first post there either.
  9. Chaney, thanks for setting me straight. You've just proved why this is the Best of All Possible BB's!!
  10. I understand that she is Ravi Shankar's daughter.
  11. I have to agree with Mr Sangry here. As a result of positive comments on this board, I have sought out and listening to a lot of both Teddy Edwards and Von Freeman lately and loving every minute of it. Its great to sample different artists even if they don't appear on Blue Note connected labels!
  12. The Dutch Jazz Orchestra Plays Music Of Billy Stayhorn-4 CD set-(Glorious Music!) Jimmy Forrest-"Black Forrest" Eric Dolphy-"Here And There" Grant Green-"Green Street" Grant Green-"Solid" Karin Krog-"Gershwin With Karin Krog" Don Friedman-"My Foolish Heart"
  13. No complaints here! This is the place to be.
  14. I guess the Holiday set is on the Definitive label but the way that it is placed on the same page under Nagel Heyer is misleading, sorry!
  15. I think I found it on the Jazzmatzz site and purchased it from CD Universe. It is on the Challenge lablel.
  16. I received a mailing today from Spain from an outfit called Jazzmessengers which features a three page spread on these Blue Note titles. They are listed for 5.95 Euro each. Someone mentioned that this is the same company that used to be planetmusic, so I am more than skeptical. I am intrigued by the fact that next they are listed under Blue Note/Time-Life Records. They can be reached by email at info@jazzmessengers.com. I would also be interested if anyone else can shine more light on this topic. Another item of interest is a 10 CD box "The Complete Columbia Golden Years Recordings of Billie Holiday" This looks like a knock-off of the set that was recently releaed here by Legacy. This is advertised in the same circular under the Nagel Heyer label new releases for 79.95
  17. I really enjoy Strayhorn's music and am in a big band listening phase lately. I recently got this set without researching it much but after an initial listen, really like this set . It features a lot of standards as well as some newly discovered Strayhorn compositions. The band swings pretty well and the arrangements are beautiful. Wonder if anyone is familiar with these recordings and has a comment or two.......................................................................
  18. I totally concur! I have been playing the Hodges set in heavy rotation during the past month or so and I seem to enjoy it more with each hearing. Great set!! If its possible to wear out cds, this set will be put to that test.
  19. I don't think his liver would be of any use to anyone and he'd be a big liability on the turnpike! He should stick to writing those clever little poems about his prostate problems, that seems to fullfill him.
  20. Could be or maybe Betty Crocker. It definitely is not Bettie Page! P.S. Happy Mothers Day!!
