  1. Just received another one of George Buck's releases of the Famous Door label featuring Red Norvo, "Vibes A La Red". Features Hank Jones and Jimmy Rowles. I really dig Red Norvo and this recording is a great addition to his discography.
  2. Thanks for the memories. What a funny show by the creators of the great Sgt Bilko/Phil Silvers Show and featuring a lot of those low comedians that populated the Bilko series including the great Joe E. Ross. The woman who played his wife had to be one of the ugliest women ever to apprear on network television. I dare you to post her picture here. Maybe not, because I'm sure that image might shatter a few monitor screens
  3. Could this person be related to Norah Jones by any chance?
  4. This whole concept is absurd. A company like Mosaic has to have strict inventory controls after all these years in business, unless they use gremlins as stockpeople, the odds of them misplacing ten box sets after all these years is pretty slim.
  5. I have to agree with the Spawn of Weizen on the Garland Prelude box. The packaging is sturdy and attractive and the music is sublime. I have always enjoyed Red Garland and this set is a real jewel!
  6. Man, that's some boozed-up bird with a jones for expensive beer to boot! Is his tongue robins' egg blue?
  7. doesn't mix well with the chemo! Thanks for the good cheer if I show up here a little on the bitchy side, its not the humidity. I'll be checking in on my good days! Best to All!!!
  8. You may be right, but just not my cuppa tea. There is so much music out there that I really like and will continue to check out, just wanted to weigh in with my two cents. I am going through a bad spell healthwise these days and like to check in every once in a while to keep in touch with you good people. Thanks.
  9. Hey it is wonderful to see that you've come over to "Dumb-Down" THIS board as well
  10. Wow what a come-back Marvel is making these days. Rising from the ashes of bankrupcy like a phoenix. I am a former shareholder
  11. I've tried it. I don't get it. I don't like it. To my ears, its not music, its noise. Its like a day at the Big Dig. Maybe it is an acquired taste or maybe I just like more traditional forms of jazz, but you guys can have it!
  12. A German translation. or just an English translation of the English, like in the Hodges? Its in english and its just a blow-up of the printed material on the back of the mini LP sleeve.
  13. Man, that's some coo-coo clock!!
  14. She leaves a legacy of some wonderful films for us to remember her by. When I was a kid in college, I saw her onstage in Chicago in this god-awful musical "COCO". The material stunk but she was on-stage almost constantly and I don't remember every seeing an actor who could totally dominate a stage even under lousy circumstances. Before the second act some machinerey broke down, so they couldn't proceed until they fixed it. She came out and charmed the hell out of the audience for like twenty minutes until they fixed the thing. That twenty minutes was almost better than the whole play. She was absolutely one of the greatest, RIP.
  15. Well at least there is still some hope for the Keynote and the Capitol Big Band sets and they do have some really interesting items coming up in the next few months.
  16. For reasons that I don't remember, I pre-ordered this from Amazon in Germany awhile ago and it came in about two weeks ago, it does have the insert with it.
  17. What's the difference between the Japanese and the domestic? I jumped the gun and ordered from Amazon GB only to find that the box from the domestic is a lot sturdier than the european version but the discs were the same.
  18. Devoting most of the weekend to listening to: The Complete Brunswick, Parllophone & Vocalion Bunny Berigan Sessions Mosaic If you are crazy about vocals, this is the one for you! Connie Boswell, Lee Wiley, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey and many many more. Nearly every track is a vocal but what glorious music and musicians are included in this set, well worth the wait. Mosaic has done it again!!
  19. Well at least this puts to rest the much discussed quandry as to the whereabouts of Hardbop. I wish him and DEEP the best of luck OVER at AAJ!
  20. Its way up over 200 these days. May have to move soon just to have a place to display and store all these wonderful sets.
  21. Hey how was the action over at Foxwoods?
  22. UPS just dropped mine off on the back porch. Set #0042. I know what I'll be listening to this weekend!!
  23. How about a set involving Jimmy Giuffre's Verve recordings? Maybe a four disc set would do it. The world is ready for more Jimmy Giuffre!
  24. I got a new catalog in the mail on Tuesday from Jazzmessangers. On the cover, they have a picture of the cover to "Basria" above which says "Blue Note offer still available this month. This CD + 96 titles more offered in our first catalog. Price E 5.95, For a 10 CD average order or more the price will be E5.50!!!" They are featuring a promotion of Arbors, Roulette and Argo jazz discs as well.
