  1. I guess the Holiday set is on the Definitive label but the way that it is placed on the same page under Nagel Heyer is misleading, sorry!
  2. I think I found it on the Jazzmatzz site and purchased it from CD Universe. It is on the Challenge lablel.
  3. I received a mailing today from Spain from an outfit called Jazzmessengers which features a three page spread on these Blue Note titles. They are listed for 5.95 Euro each. Someone mentioned that this is the same company that used to be planetmusic, so I am more than skeptical. I am intrigued by the fact that next they are listed under Blue Note/Time-Life Records. They can be reached by email at info@jazzmessengers.com. I would also be interested if anyone else can shine more light on this topic. Another item of interest is a 10 CD box "The Complete Columbia Golden Years Recordings of Billie Holiday" This looks like a knock-off of the set that was recently releaed here by Legacy. This is advertised in the same circular under the Nagel Heyer label new releases for 79.95
  4. Welcome to our addiction group!
  5. I really enjoy Strayhorn's music and am in a big band listening phase lately. I recently got this set without researching it much but after an initial listen, really like this set . It features a lot of standards as well as some newly discovered Strayhorn compositions. The band swings pretty well and the arrangements are beautiful. Wonder if anyone is familiar with these recordings and has a comment or two.......................................................................
  6. I totally concur! I have been playing the Hodges set in heavy rotation during the past month or so and I seem to enjoy it more with each hearing. Great set!! If its possible to wear out cds, this set will be put to that test.
  7. I don't think his liver would be of any use to anyone and he'd be a big liability on the turnpike! He should stick to writing those clever little poems about his prostate problems, that seems to fullfill him.
  8. Could be or maybe Betty Crocker. It definitely is not Bettie Page! P.S. Happy Mothers Day!!
  9. This is sarcasm, right?
  10. This shows up on auction quite often.
  11. Her estate would probably benefit more from the royalties on her recordings.
  12. So that's what Hillary Clinton is up to these days.

    Norah Jones

Did you know that she is Ravi Shankar's daughter?
  14. I'm sure a big fan like Weizen will scoop these all up!
  15. Looks like they let you go with just a warning, this time!
  16. I vote for the Complete Bluenote with Sonny Clark because both these guys are my favorite artists on Bluenote and I love the results of this colaboration.
  17. Okay had a listen to this set. Discs 1 & 3 are watered down versions of swing played by musicians trying to sound like American bands and not succeeding very well. Disc Two is comprised of vocals first sung with legit lyrics and then morphed into propaganda slamming Churchill. FDR. Blacks, Jews and other enemies of the nazi regime. Its interesting to listen to for about 3/4 of the disc. Disc 4 is notable for the tracks with Django and the rest is mediocre. The booklet is 60 pages long and is very comprehensive and has almost more information that one cares to know. Goes into detail about the musicians who worked with the nazis to grind out this music, most of whom either perished during the war or were blacklisted after the war for their roles in the propanda effort. Its a set that is probably good for one listen and then gets shelved for awhile. For 17 bucks, its not a bad deal though.
  18. You might be able to better gage the contents of this set by my listing the titles of each disc in the set: Disc One-German Swing,Dance & Jazz Bands 1933-1944 Disc Two-Charlie & His Orchestra:Nazi Propaganda Swing Disc Three-Swing In Occupied Europe, 1940-1944 Disc Four-Swing in Belgium and France 1940-1944
  19. I just got this on a whim, it was inexpesive enough for 4 discs. Has anyone purchased this set yet and any thoughts on the music? I haven't put it on yet but it looks verrry interessstinng............................(remember Arte Johnson on Laugh-In?)
  20. Could these three personages be the creation of one sick tormented mind?
  21. Freddie Hubbard/Stanley Turrentine--"In Concert"(Vols 1&2) Helen Merrill-"Casa Forte" Louis Smith Quartet-"Just Friends" Louis Smith & Jodie Christian-"The Very Thought of You"
  22. If you want to talk about great classic TV, "The Honeymooners" is right up there in the top ten. I've been watching a lot of them on VHS lately and the comedy holds up pretty well. I think its head and shoulders above a lot of the crap that passes for situation comedy today!! Gleason and Carney really were the Greatest!
  23. The release date will coincide with the opening date for the new and more Norah-Friendly Blue Note BB! (Purple Herman)
  24. Did they give you any idea as to a release date?
