  6. this is amazing music.. As I have all the individual discs... I'll be skipping this one... I'm 90% sure the boxed set does not have anything new... (or unavailable on the individual discs...) Can someone confirm or deny??? thanks
  7. I'm totally with you Ken... There is a simple elegance to the Mosaic sets... And in this day and age... we could use with a LOT more simple elegance.... :blush2:
  8. I'm new to this series and am trying to get some of the older volumes (2,3, 5-9).... The ONLY places I can find them are amazon (at $30 a pop new) or storyville's website for $40 a pop... Anybody got any ideas... Anybody got an extra unopened copy of Vol. 8, they'd be willing to sell??? thanks :o
  9. Thanks Brownie!!! I'm still on the fence about this one..... Oh... I thought JSP was one of the "bad" labels (e.g., no royalties)...? :beee: The VJC 4CD set includes 104 tunes. Some 20 of those have additional vocals by non King Cole-trio members!
  10. Good man... OP's singing is quite acceptable.... :winky: Okay, you convinced me: OP disk two. I really enjoy this set...
  11. The problem I'm having with this set.. is the plethora of backup vocals as described in the link I posted earlier.. In general I DON'T think they work. I hated them with the Dinah Washington set.. and have basically dismissed them... If the earlier review is right.. Regrettably I might have to pass this one up.... Now is someone's who's got the earlier set.. can tell me that these backup vocals constitute less than 10% of the set... then maybe... but somehow I doubt it....
  12. his double-CD Twi-Life is very good...
  13. Moved onto Oscar Peterson Disc 3.... :blush2:
  14. Duke Small Group Disc 7.... :tup Now Disc 4.... sound issues.. but what could they do???
  15. Thanks Brownie - Do you have this set? How's the sound quality? There's some interesting (critical but helpful) comments here... http://apileocole.alongthehall.com/chatter/chat1938.html http://apileocole.alongthehall.com/chatter/chat1938.html#session1
  16. http://www.worldsrecords.com/cgi-bin/storeR.cgi?specific=itemcode&phrase=65202 Do you think this is a rip-off of the 3CD set Transcriptions set that came out a few years ago? This one - http://www.amazon.com/Transcriptions-Nat-King-Cole-Trio/dp/B000BM6AMY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1265754346&sr=8-1 Doesn't look the same... Anybody got any help on this one...?
  17. Duke Small Group Disc 7- Digital... instead of waisting my time watching that stupid football game... :tdown :tdown

  22. Anybody notice that Nimbus (out of the UK) has been reissuing a lot of 2CD sets of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Duke... :excited: The Shaw seems to be "Last Recording Series.." (3 double CD's) I believe. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8122139 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8043912 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7824427 The Goodman is a reissue of the Yale University Archives series... (They're up to Vol. 4) http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8122064 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8043913 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7904800 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7760988 The Ellington seems to be something called the "Great Concerts" series http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8122143 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8043911 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7760991 I've got 2 of the Goodman and 1 of the Shaw.
