  1. Moved onto the digital Johnny Smith Roost Disc 6....
  2. Digital Version of Turrentine set... Disc 4...
  3. Part of my attraction is I really dig her voice in this set... Just kinda subtle, raw sexy..... I'm probably going to cave and get the Goodman despite the alternate tracks...
  4. okay... my last post got me thinking..... Of those Mosaics you possess.... what are your three favorites??? (Doesn't have to be in order of preference..) I'd have to go... 1) Elvin Jones Blue Note Sessions 2) Anita O'Day * 3) Two way tie... Stanley Turrentine & Tal Farlow... ** With one caveat... I have the Oscar Peterson but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet... and I suspect it might jump on this list... How's that for a top 3... maybe 5?
  5. I know there are board members who disagree with me... but this set is in my top 3 mosiacs.... :excited: I listened to some of that the other day, too.
  6. Really??? Do we have an ETA on ther other Akiyoshi set? and what specific titles??? :excited: With regard to #4, Mosaic has plans for yet another Akiyoshi/Tabackin Select which includes "Road Time" and other live recordings by that band.
  7. okay since I apparently killed this thread... I'm still a little torn over this set... It does seem to be an unusually high number of alt. takes.... Am I wrong about that? Did anyone buy/receive/listen to this set? thanks
  8. hmm.... some of my mistakes.... dinah washington set, chico hamilton come quickly to mind
  9. I was curious about the prevalence of alternate takes... so I counted.. Out of 177 songs on the 7 cds there are 66 alternate takes.... or 37.2% of all the songs   They would have had to do one and a half CD's just for the alternate takes... This seems like a LOT even by Mosaic standards... As I'm one who doesn't like a lot of alt takes... :beee: :beee: I think I might be passing on this one... I might take your advice and do the small groups Victor set... (even though that also has a lot of alt takes - just not 66!) thanks
  10. Good point Chuck.. But my thinking is this.. 1) Goodman's volume of output is pretty large (thus making it difficult to determine which are "Must-haves") 2) Given the massive number of reissues/bastardization/compilations/imports/etc., it is difficult to determine which Goodman releases are legit and which are fraudulent. 3) Given his historical place in the music, I figured a large sample - would provide a good assessment of his contributions and finally 4) I trust Mosaic... What do you think?
  11. Don't have very much Goodman... I assume this would be a good (if not great) sample??? Opinions???
  12. Have you listened to it, yet?? How's the sound quality?
  13. After that I had to go back and listen to Disc 7... I have to say this is a lot better than I remember.... :excited:
  14. Jazz Crusaders Disc 4... I was surprisingly disappointed on the 1st spin.... Time to give it another shot.... Much better the 2nd time around....
  15. thanks Ken... I might have to grab this.. I don't have any Zeitlin.... Would you recommend this as a starting point? And a semi-related note... I was late to the game about the Tatum Storyville box... I saw your other post... do you like the set? I've got no Tatum either and this looked good... Will I be disappointed??? thanks....
  16. Onzy Matthews Select - Disc 2
  17. Elvin Jones Disc 3... (digital) I have to say... over time I think has become my favorite Mosaic.... :excited:
  18. I don't have any Tatum... so I think I'm going to snag this one... great price over at CDU... $72 for 11CD's!!!! http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7766619 I have the Webster... it was pretty good except the last 2 discs...(incomplete takes and big band)... How's the sound on this set????
  19. Why cover art is that important to you... you got me...  When they use the original cover art, I do. When they shrink it to a microscopic size, or don't include it at all, I don't.
  20. JiveAss label :beee: :beee: :beee: :beee: :beee: Tell you what... go buy Collectors choice or the non-licensed stuff from Spain.... I'll take the guys in Stamford, Ct. We are talking about our Dear and Beloved Mosaic here, right?..
  21. Okay I listened to the samples... I was a little more intrigued that I thought I would be ... but I'm still staying away from this one... for a while...
  22. cool... thanks...
  23. $34.00 including shipping to the US... Good price.. I took a chance.. and snagged it... Hope I don't regret it...
