  1. don't go there.....
  2. Bobby Hutcherson Select Disc 1.. off to a GREAT start with Rosewood - track 1...
  3. I know... they caught a lot of flack (no pun intended) for not doing that and not offering a hard copy... Overall I wouldn't recommend buying the set... just a couple of dates... I was seriously considering this till I saw it was MP3 only. For $70 I would expect lossless (FLAC) files.
  4. Okay Js... you talked me down off the ledge.... A very valid post (and wise)... I'm not sure I agree with everything you said but you're viewpoint is legit... Personally I don't like it... I know at some point Mosaic will disappear.... and I can't STAND the thought of Pat Metheny and Boney James in the same sentence... ( I just can't do it...)... This on top George Wein selling the jazz festival biz.... not a good week...
  5. Well I have to say... I finally finished the set today.. and my first impression with the remaining 2 discs and overall is that it's a bit a of disappointment... I mean i've got way too many McCoy records but this set just didn't work that well.... I may change my mind but at first listen I was kinda bummed... the little bit of a trio session was the best part.... Just finished listening to Disc 1 of McCoy's Select... So far.. nice... Very different than his work today but quite consistent with the type of material he was composing/playing during that era....
  6. Okay I'm listening to this single now and seriously digging it... My question is this... How representative (or not) is this record of his stuff (particularly I'm thinking about the Mosaic set The Complete Columbia Recordings of Woody Herman(45-47) #223)?.... I know these are 20 years apart... Of course I know about Woody Herman... but I've stayed away from buying his stuff since I don't know it well... I got Woody's Winners thinking it would give me an idea of his stuff... and I really like this record!!!
  7. just got mine today also.... !!
  8. Mp3 of Charles Tolliver Select.... forgot how good it was.... Funny thing about this set... I started with the intention of listening to a couple of tunes on Disc 3... now I kinda can't leave without listening to the whole set....
  9. Purchased Dave Douglas' new (DOWNLOADABLE ONLY!) boxed set - Live at the Jazz Standard.. 12 sets, 6 nights... Great stuff! I wish a hard copy was available!
  10. Just got Live Trane: The European Tours (Pablo) as a Xmas gift!!! I'm thoroughly enjoying that one...
  11. I would highly recommend the Charles Lloyd.... and the Slide Hampton and the Ellington... Those IMHO are the best.. particularly the Lloyd....
  12. I haven't even had a chance to read them but I like being first...!!! http://mosaicrecords.com/futureprojects.asp Now that I've read it... that Ellington reissue is confusing...
  13. Finishing up Disc 3 of Farmer/Golson/Jazztet... It seems that those of who bought this already KNOW how good it is... Now for those of you on the fence.... (Ron S? maybe... - although I think you did get this one... ) Grab the Capitol set... and then the Farmer...
  14. Disc 4 Onto the Farmer/Golson set discs 1 -2... I have to say that out of the relatively new sets... this one gets a lot of airplay... For those who have not coughed up the $$$$ You might want to get this one...
  15. Finishing up the pleasantly surprising positive Lou Donaldson set with Discs 5 and 6.... :
  16. Up to Disc 4... it is quite a good set... If you're on the fence... get the Capitol jazz set... but put this on the "get when running low" list... Lou Donaldson Disc 1... I had a fair amount of Lou before... but this is better than I thought ti would be ....
  17. I'm glad for you... but I couldn't deal with just how BAD the sound quality was..... I donated my copy to the library a few years ago...
  18. I went for the Capitol Sessions... no interest in the Condon....
  19. I've got my system down pat... This set gets played in car... and the Mosaics get played working at home... (FYI right now.. got that Bud Freeman single going... It's good but hard to follow that Slide Hampton!! But thus I digress... ) I am really surprised by how much I like this set...I've got A LOT of 'Trane Impulse stuff and of course the stuff with Miles... but this was/is really enjoyable.... I picked this up in the Concord sale--haven't even had a chance to play a single disc yet. Oh well, maybe next year.
  20. Slide Hampton Drum Suite... Way better than I expected....
  21. I have to say I'm on Disc 7... and I am thrilled to have this... It's so interesting (and enjoyable) to hear a lot of his early playing... So much of his Impulse life was what's always been on the market... The price on this puppy was absolutely absurd!!! A HUGE
  22. HAH!!!! My largesse paid off since I ordered the Classic Capitol Sessions a few months ago.... For ONCE I'm all set....
  23. Just switched to the MASSIVELY enjoyable NOW OOP Mulligan Concert Jazz Band set... Damn this is good... Much better than I remember...
  24. Randy Weston Select.. Discs 1 & 2....
  25. Onto John Patton Disc 3... (I'm doing some serious Mosaic catch up listening...!
