thanks ... I had always wondered about that... It wasn't her best period, the Roulette stuff, but there are treasures in the set. She did better with Mercury, and I'm fond of her later Pablo stuff, especially the Ellington Song Books. Big Happy Birthday, by the way, to Michael Cuscuna, who turned 58 on Wednesday!

Sarah Vaughn Disc 3... on random play.. Ironically this is making me want to listen to the Anita O'Day set more....(probably tomorrow on the way to work.... ) I've just not been able to get into Sassy... When she does a song straight... it's wonderful... but she was so prone to oversinging it.... (and winging it...) I know some of this board LOVE this set.... It's just got too many misses for me... and not enough hits....

I completely understand... I'm so far backed up in my listening I haven't even cracked open the Jazz Crusaders box....

thanks for not making us out to be a bunch of liars/exaggerators.... (Nice to know your'e digging the set...) I say this as someone who hestitated over the Elvin set, but who has become a true believer and one of its biggest boosters. I cannot speak highly enough about the WHOLE set. The dates with Farrell are excellent, but so is 98% of the rest. It is the one Mosaic set I own which greatly EXCEEDED my expectations. And there is something about putting all the sessions together in one set which makes each indivdual session shine more brightly.

Very funny.... You'd be surpised by how "enlightened some of Wynton fans can be....

In honor of it's goingoutofprintness... Elvin Disc 3....

Another thing I love about the Elvin set... is IMHO there is not a weak disc or set in the entire thing.... Often with a 6-8 (or more) box set... there's always a few "throwaway sessions." (The Sarah Vaughn comes to mind as an example...) But I have to say this is in my top 3 Mosaics.... Just excellent all around...

Just heard back from our boy Jackson... He said I got one of the last 'Trane sets (ordered 7/27)... Just got the FedEx tracking email.... So I'm assuming everyone here who wanted one... did get one...., right? I will say this.. despite their complete disorganization... a) They probably made a shitload of $$$ of this sale... and b) Jackson seemed to be the only dude there who knew what was going on... I did hear that rumor that the Wes was OOP.... but I'm going to hope there is a Round 2 with that set...

Interesting... ! So I just recieved Roy Haynes new Cd, Whereas and there's a very interesting card inside the CD... to summarize... "Coming this winter, the Roy Haynes Boxed Set".. A multi-cd collection spanning Roy;s 60+ years of recording and performing. The card says if you return the card, before the holidays they will "send you full details on the set along with a deep discount offer." His Cd is on Dreyfus, so I looked up which records he's released on that label and here's the info... 1994 Te Vou! Dreyfus 1998 Praise Dreyfus 2001 Birds of a Feather: A Tribute to Charlie Parker Dreyfus 2004 Fountain of Youth Dreyfus 2006 Whereas Dreyfus Jazz So I'm wondering if a) this will simply be a reissue of the above (- the new CD) OR b) previously unreleased live stuff?? If it's B - I am SO There!!!! Any thoughts... Haven't listened to the new record yet but it's a live date with his new band... Love Roy and I'm sure it's awesome... Time to fill in that card and wait...

Got a confirmation email on my final order placed on 8/3 which had about 6 cds..... no word about my 2nd "trane order.... Just called them to check.... He said I was one of the last 'Trane orders they might be able to fill. He was going to call the warehouse and let me know either way today... Hey Ron did you get yours??? Okay I'm digging it more... so onto Disc V Shows how music strikes people differently. The JJ Mosaic renewed my enthusiasm for jazz after two years of not really enjoying jazz all that much.

JJ Discs 6 and 7.... I was always lukewarm to this set... Let's see how I feel now...

I have to say... I wonder why they didn't include the Wes Montgomery or Sonny Rollins sets in this sale?
