Okay I'm digging it more... so onto Disc V Shows how music strikes people differently. The JJ Mosaic renewed my enthusiasm for jazz after two years of not really enjoying jazz all that much.

JJ Discs 6 and 7.... I was always lukewarm to this set... Let's see how I feel now...

I have to say... I wonder why they didn't include the Wes Montgomery or Sonny Rollins sets in this sale?

Actually the sound on the Evans really bugged me... which is why I got rid of it 6 months ago... (Also NO Booklet??? ) To my ears, early '90's Fantasy CDs generally sound pretty damn great.

At least in my case.... I was not that familiar with 'Trane's Prestige stuff... Everyone knows about his Impulse era... There are two things driving this... 1. The Price... and 2. Going OOP.. (but it's mainly the price.... ) If this same set was on sale for $100 or $150... I suspect half of us who ordered would not have ordered... but at $4 a CD?

One of my top five.. maybe even top 3... That was my first one and I agree - it's amazing - I wasn't too familiar with his solo albums. A great way to catch up.

I'm not sure I agree... Prior to Mosaic.. I had no Bud Shank, Oliver Nelson, Anita O'Day, Tal Farlow, which were all fabulous wins for me... Now I also had no Chico Hamilton... I agree in general... that it does help to have familarity with the artist... and you do take more of a risk when your first purchase is a Mosaic of so and so... but I think it's a fair strategy... if you're game for it...

Now I'm going to confuse you.... those dates don't make sense... Conn ordered his on 7/18 and out of stock I ordered my first on 7/20 and got it... You order yours on 7/24 and I ordered a second on on 7/27, just called them and they said it's history.... So Conn should have gotten one... (and maybe you!) WTF..... I ordered one on 7/24, but conn ordered his on 7/18 (even though he likes to pretend he'll do it in the future on 8/18), so it looks like I'm SOL. I did have a bunch of singles in that order (including some for Future Boy), and haven't heard a thing about them.

I feel bad for you guys... (for the apparent few of us who actually got one....) Sorry.... Ron did you get yours in .. under the 7/31 window?

Ron.... Get off the Stitt fence and buy the damn thing... Whaddya waiting for...?? I I'm looking at the Parlan, Stitt, Capitol Jazz, and Donaldson. Which, if any, I'd get now? That's a different question.

I'm going to ignore that last comment... But I found the Sarah set to be very uneven... Some great stuff and some stuff they really could have left out.. Sarah Vaughan makes me cry. Beats the crap out of Wynton making you cry.
