okay... so I'm looking at the Mosaic site and one of the reasons I had ruled out getting this set was I have several Mobley Blue Note Cd's.... the title of the box says the "Complete Blue Note Hank Mobley Fifties Sessions" and the discographical info on their site says the following: "Album index: BLP 5066 The Hank Mobley Quartet (J)CJ28-5128 CD reissue of above BLP 1540 Hank Mobley Sextet BLP 1544 Hank Mobley And His All-Stars BLP 1550 Hank Mobley Quintet B2-46816 CD reissue of above BLP 1560 Hank BLP 1568 Hank Mobley (J) BN 61006 Curtain Call (J) GXF 3066 Poppin' BLP 1574 Peckin' Time B2-81574 CD stereo reissue of above" I have "Peckin' Time and ... His All-Stars' on CD... Is this set worth the other 7 sessions??? I assume there's no new material... just the 9 alternate takes the website mentions?

so as I mentioned... I heard this on another board... Anybody got an "in" over at Mosaic and want to ask, a) if it's true, b) what's on it and c) ETA?

I heard a rumor on one of the other boards that there was always a plan for 2 Brookmeyer Selects.... Anybody know anything about this? Fact or fiction? What would be on it? ETA?

finished listening to the set a few weeks ago.... Just great... By far this is my fave Mosaic vocalist set......

had NO interest in this... but I guess YOU PEOPLE forced me to go the Mosaic site and listen to the online samples.... Damn....

Just finished Sonny Stitt Disc 1.... and despite all my bitchin and whining about whether to buy it or not.... WOW.... Disc 1 is great.... :tup more to come....

personally I can't stand the Proper boxes... these kinda sets make me very nervous.... Feels like it's inevitable that the artists (and their estates) are getting COMPLETELY ripped off....

okay update.... after about 3 tracks... it was not working for me.... so away with you.... !!! Had to slip in an Elvin Jones CD (Very Rare! W/ Art Pepper).. to get MY groove back.... (forget Stella.... That chamberjazz stuff was (in the words of super-spy Austin Powers wilting my mojo).... Phew.... thank you Elvin....

I have gone back and forth on this set... When I first heard it ... I hated it.... I was like WHAT THE HELL was that???? Hello.... didn't listen to it for years... and pulled it out about a week ago due to some conversation on this board (about Jim Hall, I think? maybe West Coast jazz?? ).... and liked it much more.... Giving Disc 2 a spin right now.... Hm..... I think i may be going back and forth again...

the good news is.. I'm VERY confident this is going to happen... the bad news is I know nothing else about this set... I'm going to have to rely on you experts here.. to fill me (as to your best guess about what's in the set.... who's on it...and do I want it...?)

after reading the dissing that the Bud Shank was getting in the least favorite Mosaic thread..... went back and am listening to Disc 5... I still like it.... maybe not as much.... but still :

that's what one of the (many) reasons I like it...I feel like I get a chance tto hear each instrument... To each his own... but did you like Elvin when he was with "Trane and McCoy?

it's funny... I printed out and read the entire thread noting that it was started in 2003 and stopped in Mar 2004. I'm curious as to if/how and why people's minds may have changed on sets they either didn't like and now do or vice versa... Time often affects our perspective (on listening and life... but I've got to give my two cents.... I have to say my least favorite Mosaics... Hmmm... 1. (With a bullet and climbing... As you ALL know by now..) Dinah Washington set... I really think they knew they should have left this in the can.... 2. Probably Columbia Swing Sessions... just didn't work for me.... 3. Sarah Vaughn.... WAY too uneven.... 4. I'm still reserving judgement on the Johnny Hodges set... (only gave it 1 spin.... and didn't do too much for me..) it's interesting to note that 1 year ago (or so....) there was quite the split view on the Bud Shank set... (I love it...) and one writer hated the Elvin set.... [To each his own.... but I can't see how you can diss' that set.... :wacko: There's quite a few sets which have come out since this thread ended... and no earlier posts mention any of the Selects... So is this thread worth updating????

2nd go-round on Tal Farlow Disc 3... Like it even more than I did the 1st time..... (which was a lot....! there's a lot of interplay and all of it swings... thanks again Ron S.... I might have to send you a Tom Brady NE #12 jersey as thanks!!!!!!!!!
