  1. I just put on "Live at the It Club" and was wondering if we had discussed the need for a Three Sounds box... and Lo and Behold... WHAM!!! I was just looking at the discography over at AMG... and it appears that not all of their stuff had been released on CD.... Is it time for a lobbying campaign??? And what would be in it???
  2. OHMIGAWD!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't even know what else to say...
  3. okay... so you're saying that this should be like the case with the Tal Farlow that we all bought from Camian and other places.... for half the price... But if you look at cduniverse's page it doesn't mention that it's an import...
  4. I've done that once or twice... but I don't think you will regret it...
  5. Hey what gives??? http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...&cart=243587047 I understand about the Select sets being available from Non-Mosaic sites.. but the NEW box sets???? I know we all talked about the Farlow.. But this does not appear to be an import.... Anybody got the scoop???? I though the Verve sets would be available AFTER they went out of print with Mosaic.... I'm not sure this is a good thing...
  6. the Turrentine is great... I have to say though... My current fave of the inprint Mosaics is the Elvin Jones box... with the Tal Farlow/Golson-Jazztet/ sets a close second... Although I just bought the Stitt, Anita O'Day and Dinah Washington and have yet to get a chance to listen to those :)))) AHH... This is like having too many good bottles of wine... I'm glad your getting positive feedback on the Clayton set... post a review, when you get it and let us know what you think...
  7. I guess that's a fair argument... I think we may have differing approaches here (which of course, we are all entitled to our own way of the world...) Just out of curiousity... Do you have all the Mosaics you want that are still in print???
  8. Can I ask you an honest question...? Why did you bid on a set when you've never heard any Buck Clayton??? Why not buy a few single Cd's first, or at least go to the Mosaic site and listen to some online clips of sets currently in print???? I don't know what the final price was but I suspect you could get a few Selects or individual Clayton Cd's for that price...
  9. Johnny Smith Small Group Sessions - Disc 7 Giving it a second spin since purchasing a few months ago.... (still think I like the Tal Farlow better... but this is pretty good..)
  10. this was one of the (many) reasons I was originally intrigued by this set. To my knowledge (and I may be wrong) this was one of the few (if not only) time they recorded together... (Another board member may be able to verify or correct that...) My sole disappointment with the set is that there are only together on 4 tracks they play on together. They are based off the album Mr. Natural. The tracks are great... esp. Track 8 on Disc 4 (a ten minute tune - Shirley)... I only wish there were more...
  11. a great set!!!!!!!!
  12. I was just looking at cduniverse's future releases and noticed this.... it's going for $52.60... Does anyone have any more info??? I assume this is a boxed set??? How many CD's? What were the original CD/LPs? here's the URL if anyone's interested.. thanks http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...&cart=243113104
  13. Okay since this is such a smart group.... My wife is buying me a new set of speakers for my stereo.... I've got a Denon reciever and a Pioneer 100CD Jukebox.... What speakers would you recommend??? And my only 2 limits... 1) Please keep it under $1000 and 2) Please DO NOT describe the sound in highly technical details... I am not an audiophile... thanks!!!!!!!! Oh and these will only be used for listening to music and the radio... (No home theater.)
  14. Come on folks... I don't think I've heard a peep for this one... I grabbed this one as soon as it came out... and loved it. This is one of the Mosaics that the first time I listened I loved it... Haven't listened to the set in a few months again until now... Right now listening to Disc 2 and a beautiful version of My Ship... Does our silence lead one to Mr. Turrentine is even underrated by the mighty minds on this board????
  15. Stanley Turrentine - Disc 2 Outstanding!!!!!! Why doesn't this get more discussion?
  16. thanks... but after my interesting adventures with Camian on the Tal Farlow set... I've kinda just decided I should give Mosaic the cash directly... (even if it's more....) thanks though...
  17. okay I weakened... I coughed up the $$$ and ordered it today.... I listened to some Stitt from that period and said "what the heck..." We'll see... B-)
  18. what ethics problem???
  19. yeah this is the catch for me.... I love sax quartets... For example if this had been a Sonny Rollins set... Bam!!!!!!!!!! I also have the fear/feeling that this could be a set which I might have to WORK to like... E.g., getting past the quartet configuration (without even the variability that a live set would include).... and have to listen to it a number of times... Then again... Augh................
  20. I'm back to waffling as to whether I want this or the new Basie box.... Anybody have the Stitt???? Likes/Dislikes??? thanks
  21. this just repeats my frustration when I posted the same question a month ago... I can't tell (and I would be very appreciative if someone could answer the following questions).... 1) Is this previously unreleased material? 2) Is this various live performances (and they all were recorded in Paris - that's the theme)? 3) Or is this simply a compilation of cuts from other artists and previous releases...? A little help please...

  23. I'm curious what you will think of the Johnny Smith. Please post a mini-review.. .... I will say that it's a fine set... There are some beautiful ballads on it. I also have a feeling that this is one of these sets that when you give it multiple spins it gets better... You know we're always kinda playing a little of a guessing game about, which if any CD's in a box set, will eventually be released as single CD's... but I feel VERY confident that 90% of the Johnny Smith will never see the light of day outside of Mosaic... FYI the number on my Johnny Smith box is 2497 (so they're about half gone...) I'm glad I got mine...
  24. But it is an actual Mosaic set--one of the same limited edition of 10,000, obviously produced by Mosaic (Mosaic's name is all over the discs and booklet), but distributed by Universal as part of the licensing agreement that enabled the production of this set in the first place. There must be a story behind why the Universal copies of this set are being sold in the US at such discounted prices (maybe because the misprinted box spines?). If a Board Member with contacts could get the facts on this from someone at either Mosaic (Cuscuna?) or Universal, it would be interesting to know. I completely agree Ron... it is important to know... for a buncha reasons... for example... 1) Why the Tal Farlow and not other box sets? 2) Is Mosaic LOSING money by (us - me included ) buying the foreign version? (Although in my case I think they've made more than up for it... (See my purchase of the Chico Hamilton box and Hil Select...) 3) Should we expect more or less of this in the future?? I, for one, would like to know... (Even though I've already pre-ordered the Jazz Crusaders box and am waffling on the new Count Basie...) And on Ron... Camian did ship a replacement (completely sealed - which was kinda interesting)... and I'm LOVING the Farlow.... What do you think of it?
