  1. I'm a slow learner..... Oh ye of little faith. ←
  2. Enjoying Bryd/Adams Disc 2.... getting good!
  3. Byrd/Adams Disc 1.... okay but nothing spectacular.... -_-
  4. I stand with my original opinion... buy the individual CDs... that are in print... To me... I'm much more interested in Mosaics where most/all of the stuff has never come out in CD and/or is not likely to come out on individual CDs..... (e.g., the Sonny Sitt set, Horace Parlan....etc.) I vote - say your $$$ for another set... ←
  5. You should call them.... most people who ordered theirs last week got them already.... and yes Big Deal... they are that quick....
  6. Good job... As Ron S. will tell you.. I'm pluggin that Elvin Jones set... Yeah... you may not get much sleep...
  7. So if I understand half the set is still out in print as individual CD's???? I just bought the Village Vanguard set and liked it... How come this one wasn't included??? Presenting Joe Williams & Thad Jones/Mel... Jones, Thad / Mel Lewis Orchestra / Williams, Joe http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...253331350&bab=E Too late?? What time period did the box set cover??? How do you like the single two other CD's that are out? (Other than the Vanguard set - : Consummation & Central Park North? Worth getting?) great price at cduniverse... less than $10 each... Hmm..... get half the Mosaic set (no booklet) for $30 or pay 10 times that for the full set on e-bay... Must be that fuzzy math again...
  8. the main reason I'm not getting it is that I have at least 2 or 3 of the sessions which were released on individual CD's....can't remember which ones but I can't buy a box of which I have at least half on CD already...
  9. Never hear much talk about this.... the only reason I'm thinking about it is from re-listening to the Elvin set... and reading Leibman's liner notes.... He apparently was very fond of his time with Elvin... Anyone have both sets... Can you compare his playing???? thanks
  10. LOL...... It's too late Ron... they released it and BAM it went straight to Running Low and Last Chance... Guess that's what caused the web page to crash.... . . . now that they safely can list "The Complete Motown Jackson 5 Studio Sessions" in "Upcoming Releases." ←
  11. okay it's back to normal... phew!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. if you go on there now... 5:25pm EST... all the Selects are gone... and most of the boxes... Obviously they must be updating the site or something... Kinda bizarre.... makes me even more glad I got the Bryd/Adams set...
  13. Elvin Jones Disc 4.... I've got a new tack Ron... I'm gonna enjoy the Mosaics I have instead of agonizing over the ones I don't have... At least that's this moment's approach ....
  14. Damn... couldn't you tell me it was awful... Something in the vein of Sun Ra meets Paul Desmond meets Kenny G.... ? Oh well.... guess can I find a reason I didn't need $50.... I like it a lot. FWIW, I got it from Mosaic about a month and a half ago, and my set is number 4323. I know they don't sell the Selects in exact sequential order (unlike the big boxes), but my understanding is that they get their Select stock in prenumbered batches that are generally sequential. If that's true, this one could go OOP pretty quickly. ←
  15. Anita O'Day Disc 8.... nice.... How can you go wrong with Barney Kessel and Ben Webster as part of 'the band?" Hey Ron... How's the Brookmeyer... I actually bought it and then when I was feeling overextended ($$$$) with my Mosaic purchases, I sent it back...
  16. THANK YOU .... that helps... ! Preferably I'd rather talk about the sexy album covers
  17. I really don't get this post... and I'm REALLY not understanding the value/purpose of this thread....
  18. Anita O'Day Disc 6... Still good but getting a little redundant with the Billy May Orchesta.... Let's see what happens with the last 3 discs...
  19. I'm with Big Al on this one Ron.... Stop thinking about this nonsense... Instead start thinking about how many birthdays/you need to have this year to get the Elvin/Anita/Turrentine/Parlan sets... It's WAY TOO HOT for this nonsense.... It's too hot outside to think about anything constructive! Whattya think the high's gonna be today, Jim? At least there's a nice breeze where I'm sitting! ←
  20. as much as I'm enjoying this set.... (And I am!!! You gotta put the Elvin ahead of this one... IMHO.... Damn. Another one to add to the list. ←
  21. Anita O'Day Disc 4... 1st half with Oscar Peterson is OUTSTANDING!!! Woo - HOO!!!! 2nd half of Disc 4 also pretty good....
  22. Elvin Jones Disc 6..... Slamming...!!! Just to give Ron S. a little nudge... I do miss Mr. Jones... Can you believe it was a little over a year ago, that he died???? Damn....
  23. I'm a big Elvin fan.... This stuff is really good... And what's really strange about Elvin is that it seems that a lot of his solo stuff is not in print.... or is very hard to find (foreign labels)... The Live at the Lighthouse sessions are great... A fair amount of this set is trio and quartet dates (which is my preferred configuration..) Out of my 25+ sets.. this is in my top 5.... And no one else is going to give a drummer a 8CD set.... This wasn't on my radar screen, but I take it you think it should be. ←
  24. Sidewinder... You DON'T have the Elvin???? AUGHHHH!! You gotta grab it....
  25. I saw the following post on another board and wanted to get your take on the question and my reply..... (I'm deleting the poster's name.) -------- From my perspective... I can't imagine them doing this for a manipulative sales based reason... I think it is related to licensing issues and how many sets they have already printed. For example, if the license for a 5000 set of xxx is due to expire at the end of 2005, and they've already printed 3500 and sold 3100, they might move it to "running low." If this is accurate, they would do this since a) the license is going to expire and b) there's no point in them printing another 1500 (to get the 5000 limit) since they are not going to sell them. Secondly, I think the loyal Mosaic base might catch on to this and would not take it well. It seems to be that we (at least me,) assume that there is a high level of honesty at Mosaic in terms of the production, selling and distribution of the sets... but that's my opinion... I'm not sure how the licensing thing works but that's my guess...
