  1. Wikipedia Marcus Strickland site
  2. Could be that the sender deleted it before you had read it. In that case you still get a notification, which is sent within seconds after the sender has sent the PM, but you don't get a notification of the deletion.
  3. Sad news. I enjoyed some of the stuff he did in the 1960s.
  4. Just sent you a test PM, without any problems.
  5. Ha ha - that happened YEARS ago with the gutless management endorsement of a select few trolls and bullies. AMEN Bro. I took a one-way ticket out of there years ago. I didn't need to - I was booted off me too J.A.W. but w/ me it was more of an: "I quit." "You can't quit. You're fired!" scenario. the issues over there (and most forums i would assume, but there maybe more so?) could be picked over ad nauseum but certainly aren't worth the time here. plus, i assume the OP was serious and that, of course, sucks. After all these years I still don't know why I was kicked off AAJ. I asked AAJ owner Ricci but never got an explanation. Oh well... By the way, the Latin phrase is ad nauseam

  7. This set contains some very good music. Recommended.
  8. I used to enjoy Mr A on British TV years ago, but I think that's a bit of an exaggeration MG Indeed. I'd say it's a gross exaggeration.
  9. He talks too much
  10. What I find annoying is that some people over there who previously weren't interested seem to think they know all about jazz as soon as they've picked up a few Hoffman-mastered Analogue Productions/Blue Note SACDs. A few also seem to think Louis Armstrong's career started in the 1950s, while for others jazz begins in that decade...
  11. Not to defend the Hoffman site or anything, but it's not a more or less independent site where everyone can say (within reason) what they like; its main purpose is to promote Hoffman's interests in the music biz, and to protect his interests the moderators have set up an extensive and extremely strict book of rules. I think the moderation and some of the rules over there are over the top and I have told them so a few times - not that it made any difference, of course Another thing I don't like over there (to put it mildly) is the extreme idolatry and sycophancy; it's not the exclusive domain of the Hoffman site, of course, but I find it sickening.
  12. the artie shaw thesaurus transcriptions cd on the hep label is out now. unfortunately there is no mention of it on the hep web site. i ordered it via jpc. i heard that the hep label has problems but i hope that they bring us more wonderful music in the future! keep boppin´ marcel Yep, owner Alastair Robertson told me a while ago the label isn't doing too well. All the more reason to buy a few (or more) of his excellent releases.
  13. There are two Japanese K2s on Hiroshi Tanno's CD stocklist (scroll down), an earlier issue in a jewel case and a later one in a mini-LP sleeve (marked *). If you're interested you can e-mail him at hiroshi@earlyrecords.com.
  14. Several others were also issued in the 32XD and MVCI series, such as Gil Evans, Oliver Nelson, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Quincy Jones, Keith Jarrett, Johnny Hartman, Count Basie, Art Blakey, J.J. Johnson, Charlie Haden, Albert Ayler, and Duke Ellington titles.
  15. I didn't like the Japanese UCCI reissues that I've heard, they sounded harsh to me, with boosted highs. The American digipaks that were mastered by Erick Labson in the mid- and late 1990s aren't my favourites either, but to me they sound better than those Japanese ones and they're cheap. Other board members' mileages vary Until something better comes along, I generally prefer the 1987 (32XD prefix) or 1991 (MVCI prefix) Japanese Impulse! CDs; as far as I know they share the same masterings. I don't know which Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane albums, if any, were released in those series, though.
  16. When was it released (should be on the back, at the bottom) and is Ron McMaster listed as remastering engineer?
  17. What is the catalogue number of your "Complete" TOCJ and in what way does the XRCD complement it?
  18. Yes, I think it was my attempt to order this set last night that prompted them to update the listing. I'm getting really frustrated with all the back-ordered items in their catalog these days. Well, they have to be very careful with their investments these days, and it's very expensive to keep everything in stock.
  19. Two ATR Threadgill albums, When Was That? and Pass the Bucket, are available on both LP and CD. I recently got the CDs from Jazz Loft.
  20. I am looking for this Mosaic 5CD-set in Exc or better condition: The Complete CBS Recordings of Eddie Condon and His All Stars - Mosaic MD5-152 PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling this set.
