  1. This is one of the sets that's currently on back order at Mosaic; according to their site it won't be available again until late 2010.
  2. I got my box from Amazon U.K. a few days ago and it's in fine shape; no damage at all and the discs are all glue-free. I immediately put the discs in those Japanese "cloth" mini-LP inner sleeves.
  3. Amazon Gift Ecard might be a good way. That sounds very promising. Would you explain, please? MG Amazon gift ecards are only redeemable for items on Amazon. Amazon gift certificates
  4. I don't know if you ship abroad, but overseas customers might still prefer paying through PayPal. It's by far the safest international payment method, and sending cash across the pond is a hazardous undertaking. Besides, in the euro zone changing euros for dollars often isn't cheap. Checks and International Money Orders are no longer used in many euro countries, and international bank transfers to destinations outside the euro zone are very expensive. Minor point: I'd call Herb Alpert and Frank Sinatra's Reprise recordings pop, not jazz.
  5. Amazon has several Japanese CDs listed. I know, but not this one. Still looking.
  6. I am looking for this Japanese CD from 1991 in Exc or better condition: John Coltrane - Live at the Village Vanguard Again! - MCA/Impulse! MVCI 23018 PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling your copy or know where I can get one. Thanks
  7. My box is finally on its way to me, with free shipping because Amazon U.K. made a mistake with my order. Although I ordered it from Amazon U.K., it shipped from Germany. Amazon assured me I'm getting the revamped box - wait and see...
  8. The Jazz Tribune series that Brownie is talking about consists of 5 2-disc sets that release all of Bechet on RCA I have it too. Brownie is talking about volume 5 in this series. There are actually only a handful of tracks by Bechet on it. The Panassie sessions with Ladnier, Newton and Mezzrow comprise the rest. Actually, there are 3 2CD-sets, not 5: Jazz Tribune No.10 - Vols.1/2, 1932-1941 Jazz Tribune No.18 - Vols.3/4, 1941 Jazz Tribune No.46 - Vol.5, 1941-1943 (plus Tommy Ladnier/Mezz Mezzrow/Frankie Newton, 1938-1939)
  9. You can always change the names to protect the incident and tell it anyway. Protecting the incident is exactly what Allen is doing by not telling what happened
  10. A great set indeed. Coleman Hawkins in his prime.
  11. Lee Konitz was born on October 13, 1927, so he's now 82. Who were his sidemen on this date?
  12. Sad news.
  13. You're welcome, and good luck - the MoJ CDs are long OOP and most are hard to find and sometimes very expensive.
  14. That's not what I said, I wasn't talking about the bottom end. What I meant is that to my ears the higher frequencies have suffered badly from the use of "noise removal".
  15. I would not purchase the Djangologie box for these three tracks. Presume they will be added to the third re-reissue box from Frémeaux! From neveronfriday: I'm not - from a distance - convinced by that Frémeaux series either. That mastering outfit I linked to does not at all sound like one that takes great care in restoring music like that and I highly doubt they were given access to any masters. François Terrazzoni who mastered with great care all the Django Frémeaux sets also mastered many Masters of Jazz releases (Ellington, Basie, Hampton, Charlie Christian, among others). He did a great job on all those! I have a couple of Terrazzoni'd Dreyfus CDs of Eliington material, "Ko-Ko" (FDM 36717) and "Take The A Train" (FDM 36732) which are as good as any transfers I've ever heard. Am playing them right now, just to remind myself of their amazing quality. Lots of audio credits: (sorry for lack of diacritical marks) Transfers and Noise removal: Francois & Anne-Marie Terrazzoni - Studio Parelies Spacialization and Sound treatment - RERFRA Process: Rene Ameline, Assistant: Philippe Arnal Premastering: Rene Ameline and Francis Dreyfus - Assistant: Pedja Mastering: Rene Ameline and Philippe Arnal Of all these people, is there only one we should thank, as it seems they all had a part in what we hear? To my ears the "Noise removal" is exactly the problem with those Dreyfus Ellington CDs. They sound dead as a dodo to me; the loss of higher frequencies info is very obvious. In my opinion Terrazzoni did a much better job in the mid-1990s with some of the Masters of Jazz CDs that Brownie mentioned.
  16. Good luck with that. One more note: I've had an extensive exchange with Amazon Germany about this boxed set and actually managed to get hold of someone who is a) human and b) cares about what he's doing. He told me that Sony has NOT informed Amazon Germany at all (at any time or in any form) about any replacement sets. They were actually lead to believe they were supposed to keep on selling this sh*t bucket that everyone's complaining about. It was only after they were alerted by customer E-Mails that they read up on Sony's "customer satisfaction" plan which is supposed to get everyone around the globe new sets. When I contacted Amazon a few days later to check what this guy had found out, he told me that Sony hadn't responded (and apparently wasn't about to respond) to Amazon.de's inquiry. I checked again today. They still hadn't heard one peep from Sony. It's typical for those monkeys in suits - and I've had my run-in with them once or twice - and I encourage everyone to just boycott those gangsters. Fat chance, I know, but I ain't touching their stuff anymore if I can avoid it. I contacted Amazon U.K. earlier this month and they told me the sets they are selling now are the revamped ones, without the box and glue problems. It seems Amazon France are now also aware of the problems and they seem to be selling problem-free sets now, according to this message on their site: Nous avons constaté que certains coffrets 'The Complete Columbia Album Collection (Coffret 70 CD + 1DVD)' de Miles Davis présentaient des défauts de qualité du conditionnement. Merci. Judging by neveronfriday's post Amazon Germany seem to be the only Amazon branch that is still selling the defective sets...
  17. I heard a Frémeaux CD a few years ago. Someone had recommended it for its sonics, but I wasn't impressed. It was only one CD and it doesn't say anything about their other CDs, of course, but I have my doubts.
  18. I haven't heard anything from this Django set but, in my experience, EMI hardly ever has better sound on anything. Correct. They tend to apply noise reduction very generously to older stuff; the EMI Artur Schnabel box is a prime example.
  19. Available for view through BBC I-Player - not sure if this can be accessed outside the UK. See link at top of this thread. The BBCi Player is "U.K. only" for copyright reasons.
  20. Did you click on the "compatibility" button next to the address bar at the top and try posting again?
  21. Which browser do you use?
  22. You still don't take PayPal?
  23. That wasn't my question. I wasn't answering anyone's question. OK, misunderstood your post.
