  1. Can't remember, too long ago since I last heard it.
  2. Any info on the sources that were used, other than the Horace Henderson session Steve mentioned?
  3. What took you so long?
  4. Now I'm dizzy...
  5. Pity, I was just going to...
  6. Is Jazzmessengers.com in the EU? They are based in Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain. Catalunya may be forced to leave the European Union depending on the outcome of a possible referendum on its independence, but for the moment they are still in the EU. Same goes for Scotland, by the way, they may have to leave the EU if they vote for independence later this year.
  7. This is the problem I have with him, his work is forever tainted by his descent into the vile bile of anti-semitism. As a European, with our history, we need no excuse from poets or anyone else encouraging this. For that reason I am totally turned-off from exploring the works of Baraka further. Which is probably a shame, because I see a lot of positive comments on here, but he strayed too far from the spirit of jazz and the light for my comfort. Totally agreed.
  8. Typical corny Parlophone artwork of the time
  9. Thanks. I'm not really a purist, but I don't like "loud". Taking into account that we almost always disagree on sound, I think there's a chance I might not like the latest Japanese reissues. Anyway, thanks again.
  10. Thanks. Has anyone been able to compare the masterings?
  11. Do those Japanese Bethlehem reissues have the same masterings as their U.S. counterparts?
  12. According to CDJapan many of the Japanese Bethlehem reissues are already OOP.

  16. Several additions to the "Running Low" list: http://www.mosaicrecords.com/lastchance.asp (Bobby Hackett, Woody Herman Columbia, Jazz Crusaders, Dizzy Gillespie)
  17. You're welcome. I'd pick the Berry plus Hawk and Ellington, but it's your wallet, not mine
  18. I'd go for the full Ellington band Mosaic first, then probably the Hawk. Sadly, they are all good sets The Chu Berry Mosaic is on "Last Chance", so why not pick up that one first? It might be gone soon: http://www.mosaicrecords.com/lastchance.asp.
  19. Beware of more recent Black Lion reissues, though, they're all riddled with heavy noise reduction. The music really does suffer.
  20. Varèse Sarabande is distributed by Universal, and so is Fuel 2000 - the latter is not part of Universal, contrary to what I said earlier. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Var%C3%A8se_Sarabande On my Fuel 2000 CDs it says:
  21. You're looking for the Mosaic set, right? LP or CD? I'm asking because this material - or at least most of it - has been reissued more than once.
  22. Yep.
  23. Better than the Universal/Fuel 2000 releases from 2001 (Conversations) and 2002 (Iron Man)?
  24. Not as far as I know.
  25. All excellent, highly recommended sets.
