  1. I was thinking more along the lines of Amon Tobin
  2. I've heard Live In Tokyo and wasn't too psyched. I guess I'm more a fan of "Anthony" Williams...
  3. Roo, I thought you'd especially appreciate the Radiohead cover. Whaddaya think? Good footage of London graffiti as well, featuring some Banksy, among others.
  4. I've been thinking about Tony Scott a lot lately, especially after reading your posts about him sometime within the last year or so. Is there a particular release you have in mind? How's about a link through the org.org purchase function?
  5. Here's a good cover. Excellent footage as well. Just, featuring the Dap horns. All arrangemenst by Mark Ronson
  6. That was awful. That show was awful. Forgive me for not having cable until the mid-90s, but what the hell was KIDS Incorporated? Because there is an awful lot of awful stuff on YouTube from that show. Some of it just crappy, but some of it downright frightening, like this clip: Good thing I didn't see that as a kid. No wonder so many people are afraid of clowns.
  7. The first one was a kid. He didn't know what he was doing. He can be forgiven... something about show choir ANYTHING just pisses me off. Those people HAVE to know how corny they are. No way anyone is that clueless. Makes me think I hate people.
  8. Warburton covers that "beat" (no drums) often. Paris Trans
  9. It wouldn't be difficult to create a brush in Photoshop to replicate ringwear...
  10. Nope. Drums...
  11. oh Vint. I just keep scrolling back up to look at that image. that is too much. as my mom would type, "lol".
  12. I may be mistaken, Lon, so forgive me. I don't understand how you can 'up-convert' an mp3 into a lossless format. Isn't it impossible to restore any information that has already been compressed from the file? In other words, once an aiff, or wav has been compressed into an mp3, it can be compressed further (more lossy), but it can never be improved upon.\ Am I wrong?
  13. Find this: Klook-mop with some of the avant-garde of the percussive avant-garde.
  14. Of all the Pharoah Sanders recordings I own, many listed above, over the past few years I've found myself going straight to "Spirits" released on Meta five or six years ago. I think it has to do, mostly in part, to the presence (and a huge presence it is) of Adam Rudolph, but Pharaoh's playing is inspired throughout most of the performance. How could it not be... The other is also on Meta, called "Twelve Arrows". Performed with a dancer, I'm afraid we don't get the full impact of the piece, but the music can be damned good.
  15. i'm with soulstream here. i would much rather read his take, or alfredson's take, on big john or baby face. if i'm reading about either of them, i am looking for information. real information. and key elements of each musician's personality to listen for. yes, i value many of the board members opinions, based on actual, in-depth discussion. opinion does account for something, but... if i'm trying to find out if i'm going to like the music or not, i'll listen to an online sample, or better yet, download a full track from emusic.com for a fraction of a dollar. whatever you think of the qualities of mp3, i'd reconsider their value. a song is worth a thousand words.
  16. In my opinion, this is a phenomenal disc. My brother plays it everytime I've seen him this month... we've listened to it four or five times in different settings. Frissell just sounds like he is squeezing the sounds out of his instrument. Surely this album has been talked about on org already, no?
  17. i asked howe gelb. he told me to ask nick cave. nick cave was not available for comment.
  18. I did some radio shows under the name Bobby St. New Mexico. It just came to me and I went with it.
  19. Sorry to hear this. I'll be pulling out some of Dewey's music for tomorrow.
  20. I hope you feel better Paul.
  21. I wasn't aware he was working on a new one. Is this a trio disc? Surprised to see that Blue Note is retaining any of its musician roster. I meant jazz musician roster.
  22. I know you can do better than that chewy chew chew cha roo. Let's see a real stab at it.
  23. Yeah, I say give it a listen and try to ignore the hype. HYPE HYPE HYPE DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE
  24. I've smoked with my fair share of aliens. They seem to like to listen to Black Beauty at melting volumes, full f'ing blast. Pretty cool folks.
