Agreed, but I didn't realize that Reminiscin' had been issued on cd.
  2. Yes they are. There are 5 of them. It's good to see that we're still doing the unexpected and NOT jumping on the "bash Jarrett" bandwagon! Bud's groaning was just as annoying, if not moreso, than anyone else's, but nobody has the balls to make a critical remark about such a god. Oy!
  3. You're kidding, right? Why get your tighty whities all in a bunch? We're talking about much-beloved comedies here, not religion or politics. As someone else pointed out, it's a matter of personal taste, not something you can prove or disprove. For you to label iconic comedians "goofy" based on your preference for a different form of humor is...er, how do I put this?...Ah yes, to elocute from within your gluteus maximus. Eloquent enough for ya? Not as eloquent as "Bite Me"!
  4. Anyone get this yet? Worth buying? Any deals available?
  5. I think ensemble comedy has evolved way beyond 'I Love Lucy' in the last several decades! See 'All in the Family', 'The Odd Couple', 'M*A*S*H', and 'Frasier' as some of the more shining examples. Well, it's all about taste, but as far as ensemble chemistry, I would take Lucy over All in the Family any day. Now Dick van Dyke Show vs. I Love Lucy -- that's a much closer call. To each his own, I guess! Carroll O'Connor was brilliant. Lucille Ball and Dick Van Dyke were just goofy, IMNSHO. For me, despite knowing where the show was coming from and the "growth" demonstrated by the Archie character by the end of the series, I still find myself turned off by the bellowing, blow-hard Archie is in so many of the episodes. Cruel put-downs of his son-in-law and berating his daughter and even his wife at times? Just not feeling it. My guess is I won't ever watch another rerun of All in the Family in this life at least whereas I frequently catch the I Love Lucy Show. What exactly are you "feeling" about I Love Lucy? Do you have red hair? Are you Cuban? Respectfully, you're talking out of your ass. You're posting my quote out of context. I saw it, I lived it, AND I have my own opinions. My original post was in response to the claim that 'I Love Lucy' may have been the best example of ensemble comedy ever. Keep the nastiness at bay, please. If you have a conflicting opinion, I'm ok with that. Just try to back it up a little more eloquently. I said "respectfully". Very good! Now back up your opinion.
  6. Red Sox v. Yankees 2004 ALCS.

  9. I think that goes for just about any "famous" jazz musician who ever emigrated to Europe!!!

  11. Poor Sonny Stitt! Even a thread dedicated to him turns into a thread not about him at all.
  12. Never be ashamed of your age.
  13. If Joe Morgan is a surprise to you, I can only assume that you never caught him and Jon Miller on those annoying ESPN Sunday night broadcasts. If I HAD to watch the game, I HAD to mute the TV.
  14. The Hawkins set is not available for pre-order yet, so there's nothing about it on their site. The discography was provided directly by Mosaic. I got it a couple of months ago when I asked them about it; at the time they asked me not to post it because it wasn't final yet - apparently it is now. It is available if you call them!!!!
  15. Cleaver is a monster, although his last solo album on FSNT left me a little cold. Blaser is no slouch either. He's one of the more innovative trombonists out there today, IMHO. Btw, I am not convinced that the Ayler is in fact a must have. Still waiting for a reissue of Braxton's Dortmund 1976 and the 4 cd Willisau set.
  16. I just listened to this, and it's great just to hear Mengelberg and Bennink in the early stages of their development, along with Curson thrown in for a couple of tracks. Not sure it was worth what I paid for it, though.
  17. Am I the only one here who thinks it's just slightly more than amusing to listen to two white guys argue about which one has the deeper black experience?
  18. Innovator? -- yes. Franklin and Edison? -- that seems to be a reach, and an attempt at posthumous deification.
  19. Personally, I find that many of today's big band recordings try too hard. They sound bombastic and loud, with a sense of "forced" swing that kind of misses the boat sailed by the likes of Duke and the Count.
  20. This is worthy of some consideration: http://www.amazon.com/Joy-Charles-Owens/dp/B0059889TM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1317848698&sr=1-1 Killer rhythm section too --- Mulgrew Miller, Ron Carter, Lewis Nash.
  21. MLB does NOT allow a bonus clause for winning the batting title.
  22. I don't think so!
  23. Because baseball was better in the '70s. And let's not forget the sportsmanship of the late '80s either. (Most believe Boggs injury was phantom. They were in the playoffs for the first time since '75, so perhaps he was being careful.) Reyes set an excellent example for good math skills. Just like Willie Wilson... Well, looking back, the actual thing that I was agreeing with was his comments about baseball prostituting itself in the steroid era, so I can't argue there. I love it when people make a post criticizing a post criticizing something by criticizing the act of criticizing. Or something like that... Really? How much do you love it? I was just saying that Reyes' achievement is still an achievement, no asterisk needed. To me, his behavior falls pretty much in line with the rest of today's community, athletic and otherwise. So it doesn't surprise or bother me. Besides, there aren't many ballplayers as exciting as he is.
  24. Excuse my ignorance, but who did Ayler influence???
  25. Did I hallucinate or was there a post saying there was to be a big box of LT material ?? Assuming the unlikelihood of the two us hallucinating simultaneously, I'd say you didn't!
