  1. A last-ditch attempt to suck us all back into Blue Note fever?
  2. Reading this reminds me why I spend so little time in music forums. I've nothing against differing opinions, humor or even occasional sarcasm used in a 'community' context. And, while I do not necessarily mind the heat, being discourteous is never hip. Invective should never be welcome here. It's a style - it's to do with how you manufacture a position which will be attended to. It calls for a well-ramified response and, when it gets something else, the point of view it represents remains dominant.
  3. Armstrong used to be criticised for his boring, bureaucratic wins, though eventually it got more interesting. Maybe Wiggo will get more into the role?
  4. None received at all - that does upset me! Okay, I've not ordered for a few months, but I've bought 70 or 80 boxes in the past 15 years, and at least a dozen Selects and Singles, each, so I do feel like being part of that community... Are you signed up for the regular emails? Yes, I usually get them (though sometimes I read about them here first and only get them a day or half a day later). Maybe your recent turn to classical boxes has offended their mr big? Or did you recently buy any euro pd cd or box...? Or have they discovered that your collection of nessa reissues is - shamefully - incomplete? Beware the wrath of the mighty.
  5. Well, at the top of every page there is a box - 'join the email list' - put your address there and bingo.

  7. I've followed Boulez through the dg period and the records correspond to the many performances I've attended. So for me it's the last twenty years that are my Boulez centre of gravity. Everyone should hear both Columbia and dg recordings, why is it a choice? It's most all on Spotify so anyone can access all of it immediately.
  8. Same company that recently did Horace Silver Total Response and That Healin' Feelin'
  9. Hm - save it for nearer bedtime...
  10. 'Spinning' this, uh, 'side' on spotters as I write...
  11. Calling it as it is on out-of-tune pianos.
  12. In breaking news, regulators are set to break the Dodo's stranglehold on Mascarene Island.
  13. It's just a normal marketing tool, isn't. It? Anyone can use the code but if you want this kind of info you have to sign up for marketing emails. Lots of companies work like this.
  14. In memory of a free festival.
  15. So the 'ongoing struggle for cultural awareness' is best served by giving patrons 'special-edition releases' that are 'unavailable to the general public'? Hm. No mention of youtube and streaming services as a means for music to reach people. CDs are for collectors.
  16. Not as good as Aric's interview, although surprisingly similar. The facts on drugs account for those many indifferent passages on Blue Note disks, including GG's innumerable fluffs and meandering.
  17. I made a Spotify playlist of the 1964 Mingus. Not all there obviously but not bad. In chronological order.
  18. Yes you're right, the Boulez is out. I'm not in the market as I bought it all first time round. Bought. Owned. Yay for me.
  19. Boulez Debussy/Ravel set also on way from DG. Not old historical enough for you guys maybe.
  20. Didn't honestly think there were five CDs worth but I've 'got' (note:own) the EMI C20th double which is dandy. But will it have the amazing songs for Fleming or the short violin work for Mutter?
  21. Heh heh. It's equally fun reading about what other people 'own'...(quaint notion, that)...
  22. It's *all* on Spotify! Is it bad form to say so?
