Corbett vs Dempsey will be releasing (4CD & Bandcamp download) this various artists compilation of live material from Chicago's "Empty Bottle" I'm definitely in on this one For the first time, a release of select music performed at Chicago's Empty Bottle in the heyday of the creative music boom of the 1990s. From 1996-2005, writer and producer John Corbett and musician and composer Ken Vandermark teamed up to curate a series of concerts, the Empty Bottle Jazz & Improvised Music Series. Together with annual international festivals, the series comprised more than 500 performances over its nine-year span, which was lauded in the international press and helped focus attention on Chicago as a hotspot for improvised music. The majority of the music was dutifully documented by Malachi Ritscher, from whose archives The Bottle Tapes: Selections from the Empty Bottle Jazz & Improvised Music Series, 1996-2005 is drawn. Over the course of six CDs, arranged in chronological sequence, the box set revels in the span of the music presented at the Bottle, from the hardest blown free jazz to microscopic free improvisation and other kinds of experimental music. The lineup incorporates nearly 100 international musicians, including Peter Brötzmann (who formed his Chicago Tentet at the Empty Bottle in 1997), Milford Graves (performing solo), a Bobby Bradford quartet with Fred Anderson, Hamid Drake and Wadada Leo Smith, Nicole Mitchell's Black Earth Ensemble, the Dutch bands Available Jelly and Clusone 3, Von Freeman in his only performance with Misha Mengelberg and Han Bennink, Jim O'Rourke duetting with Cor Fuhler, Mats Gustafsson and Thurston Moore in their first face-off, Chicago Underground Quartet, Steve Lacy/Roswell Rudd Quartet, and much more. The package comes with a lavishly illustrated 64-page book, loaded with never-published photos and vintage ephemera, including Dan Grzeca's beautiful posters, as well as an in-depth essay by Corbett, with play-by-play notes on the music. https://corbettvsdempsey.com/records/the-bottle-tapes/

Anyone know if there has been any movement on recommencing Martin's site - it's almost 2 years since he sadly passed (time flies!!) This web site is no longer accepting new orders. We are sorry to inform you that Martin passed away in early December 2023. We are doing our best to contact anyone with outstanding orders and either post or refund them. We hope to transfer the CD stock so it is available again, but this will take time to organise. If you knew Martin, or the records and CDs he helped put out, please celebrate his life and love of music. He will be missed greatly. — Martin's family (Madelaine and Leo) 11th December, 2023 Emanem compact discs - curated by Martin Davidson psi compact discs - curated by Evan Parker NEWS Other related links: European Free Music Helen Petts video clips Cafe Oto Mopomoso The Vortex

Neil Charles (Dark Days Quartet) Jazz in Britain (Jazz Now) release
romualdo replied to romualdo's topic in New Releases
He's performed with you on a multitude of sessions -
Upcoming Lester Young RSD (Black Friday, November) Birdland 51-52 recordings - looks like a single LP only & a paltry 8 tracks Wonder if the source material will be the 6 LP Boris Rose Ambrosia broadcast recordings (or their original acetates) - pity they didn't attempt a larger more complete set (something I recently recommended as a Mosaic box release) https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/19301
-
also Bell Sound Studios, Millbrook, NY (Timothy Leary), Judson Hall (Ayler SpiritsRejoice), A-1 Sound (Herb Abramson's Studio) see p61-62 (Ch 😎 of "Always in Trouble" plus p150-159 (section on Richard Alderson) "The studio where I recorded all the ESP stuff was an abandoned warehouse on West 65th Street, which had been condemned" The name was changed from RLA to Impact Studio when Harry Belafonte bought in

great news, finally a CD release It's not yet listed on the Souffle Continu site, including SC Bandcamp, actually can't find it anywhere except Soundohm ATS
-
RIP Danny - versatile & wonderful bassist saw him play with Richard Thompson here in Brisbane, late 90s? Have been enjoying the recent Nick Drake 5LP "Making of 5 Leaves Left" set - quite a bit of unreleased Danny here (10 previously unreleased takes)
-
add 1969/11/2 London, UK - Ronnie Scott's - BBC TV broadcast - I have a 7 minute recording of "Fragments of a Dedication....."
-

I was in the same situation as you & bought this set in dribs & drabs over 4 years (2001-2014) only missing out on disc 2 where an Organissimo member burnt me a CDr also back in 2014. That same year I also scored a booklet from Mosaic. Normally I would have photocopied this on an A4 scanner (do this for a jazz friend in Sydney, particularly the Mosaic sets). I came a cross an alternate method today ie use a scanner iPhone App ie Adobe Scanner - I've managed effectively to scan the whole booklet as a PDF file - it's 27.9MB - I could send this to you via Dropbox if you like?
-
RIP Mark - wonderful Turtles harmonies didn't realise he sang on T-Rex's "Bang A Gong" The "Mudshark" dialogue also came to mind
-
Wonder if anyone has previously mentioned an Ahmed Abdul-Malik set - six original releases on various labels (Riverside, Prestige, New-Jazz, RCA-Victor, Status) - would have been a nice Mosaic Select IMHO. The UK Avid label have 4 of the releases on a twofer CD set. Won't happen now with the demise of Selects. The recent live (Stockholm, club residency over 5 nights) tribute 5CD set "Giant Beauty" by [Ahmed] (yes, the brackets are part of the name) is highly recommended IMHO.
