  1. Wow!! I thought he passed years ago - was introduced to him in the 70s - what an innings, 97 My fav recording of his was The Masochism Tango, hearing it first via an Australian band "Captain Matchbox" version in the early 70s Also remember seeing his 10" LPs at various friends parents houses in the past from WIKI In 1960, Lehrer essentially retired from touring in the U.S.[2] The same year, he toured Australia and New Zealand, performing a total of 33 concerts to great acclaim[38] and controversy.[49] While in New Zealand, he penned lyrics critical of the All Blacks' upcoming tour of Apartheid-era South Africa and Prime Minister Walter Nash's stance on it.[50][51] Lehrer's tours occurred during a time in which he was, he said, "banned, censored, mentioned in several houses of parliament and threatened with arrest." In particular, "Be Prepared" drew advance resistance in Brisbane from the commissioner of police. He performed several songs in Australia that were still unreleased, including "The Masochism Tango."[31]
  2. RIP Ozzy - Master of Reality was my fav but Paranoid always makes me smile, especially the lyrics saw Sabbath live here in Brisbane back in '74 (at the legendary Festival Hall), even have some pics (transparencies) of the concert somewhere
  3. Danilio, are you aware of the massive 5 Volume series published (last year IIRC) in Italian only by Antonio Lanza (italian academic & jazz fan) called "Californian Jazz, 1951-1960" (Italian Publishers only) I convinced an Italian Veterinary colleague here in Brisbane (Australia) to attempt a translation (she was keen to try & completed volume 1) & has had Amazon publish the first volume (english version) - she brought me back the entire (Italian) set on a recent holiday to her home country earlier this year https://www.amazon.com.au/Californian-Jazz-1951-1960-Antonio-Lanza/dp/B0DF2MDYTS/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0
  4. just checked my database & between 1995 & 2008 & picked up 101 BN Connoisseurs & have parted with 20 of those over the years (upgraded to RVGs, JBNLTs, JSHMs) My fav series was the BN 10"s doubles plus a shout out for Elmo Hope's Trio & Quintet sessions (BN & PJ) Overall the complete series had a profound impact on my listening thanks to Michael C
  5. I may have misrepresented my description above - the SQ of the set is excellent - I was referring to the name of the company ie MIG - "Made In Germany" as being pedestrian
  6. One of the long awaited (IMHO) digital releases has been Friedrich Gulda's "Nachricht Vom Lande" double LP originally on the German Brain label (Neu!, Guru Guru, Harmonia etc). A significant release in the Cecil Taylor discography but also includes Albert Mangelsdorff, John Surman, Barre Phillips, Stu Martin & Ursula Anders The festival (Tage Freier Musik) recorded over 4 days in August '76 at the Moosham Castle in Austria has been released as a double CD on the pedestrian sounding German label MIG (made in Germany) - appears to be associated with the Moosicus label A thunderstorm added to (or detracted) the ambiance of some of the recordings, hence the title of one track Mooshamer Begegnungen (Fortsetzung) "Das Gewitter" (Moosham Encounters (continued): The Thunderstorm Phillip Freeman discusses this release in his recent CT publication (p 166-169) BTW, Cecil Taylor also perfomed a solo concert during (Aug 20) at this festival, the full version released on CD ("Air Above Mountains")
  7. Best of the 40-42 Blanton-Webster Sessions (including the small groups)- 4CD set released in 2024 - best sounding versions so far, exceeding the big box masterings (puts them to shame). Source material being pristine 78s with outstanding SQ. Contains 94 tracks from this period (the RCA box had 140 tracks ie alternate takes etc) Evan Parker's Collected Solos - rerelease by Otoroku - a truly beautiful set contains Saxophone Solos, Monoceros, The Snake Decides, Six of One plus the cassette of extra material from the Saxophone Solo sessions - replicates the original Incus release
  8. +1 for Kaoru & add the Abe 7CD "1970-1973" set on the Japanese Youth label (originally PSF releases)
  9. Saw the same lineup a few months back here in Brisbane (Australia) - one of the best concerts I've seen. Vast majority of the audience were 20-30 year olds & so into it!.
  10. This box is a Booker Little goldmine (similarly the Wynton Kelly Mosaic)
  11. second that - bought my copy on first release in 1995 - can't believe that's 30 years ago Contains the rarer "Closet Mix" of their third LP & an unreleased VU demo tape from 1965 (not subsequently released on later multi CD sets)
  12. Thanks a million James - been waiting for this
  13. Good news - got this response from Moers today Hi, Thank you for reaching out and for your order. We kindly ask for a bit of patience – international shipments to Australia can take some time, especially with customs processing and longer transit routes. Your records are on their way, and we expect them to arrive within the usual international delivery timeframe. If there are any unexpected delays, please don’t hesitate to contact us again. We truly appreciate your understanding and are always happy to assist. Best regards, Best Tristan Hennen ______________ Moers Music An der Schneckull 21 47445 Moers
  14. Until recently I thought the label was extinct but was surprised to find it still functioning (effectively?). Do they really have the Parker/Lytton Ra LP in stock?
  15. thanks for the encouraging comment
  16. Has anyone dealt with the German label Moers in the past? It appears they have an active website & LPs/CDs for sale, primarily from their festival concerts. I placed an order (Parker/Lytton LP, John Carter CDs) 9 days ago, have been charged but heard nothing from them since ie no email to confirm my order but it is actually still visible on their site. I did send them an email 3 or 4 days ago but have received no response. Have I been dudded?
  17. Have a collection of jazz 78s (Australian, UK, German & US pressings) played on an old wind up portable gramophone (Columbia 109a) or a 78 compatible technics SH-10E turntable (separate power unit) that i sourced from the ABC radio studios in Sydney a few years back. My preamp has the capability to switch to 78. There is definitely an audible difference to the quality of the sound.
  18. RIP Louis a prolific & inspiring musician/human being - just checked my database & he appears on 70 recordings in my library
  19. That Byas set (44-46 US recordings) is one of my fav Mosaics & one of the best releases IMHO
  20. RIP Sly The recent doco is essential viewing IMHO
  21. I'd also add "Omniverse Sun Ra" (Art Yard, 2015) by Geerken & Trent - has updated material missing from Campbell
