  1. Yep!! what a bonus, especially on the 25 minute version of African Cookbook Another great BE performance that has been on replay at my place is the 27min track "Blues For You" on the Lamemt For Booker Ervin Enja LP/CD
  2. Currently on repeat listening of "Monterey '66" - spectacular live recording with lots of solo spaces - one of Randy's best lineups What do people generally think of his so called "commercial" U/A release "Destry Rides again" - it was omitted from the Mosaic Select at Randy's request I don't think it sounds that bad - managed to pick up a Japanese TOCJ CD release of it
  3. I think Sam records has a thing for Nathan Davis - quite a few of their releases have him as leader or sideman The jazz icons DVD will be enough for me. Don't need it duplicated with vinyl.
  4. I have that same live recording (Paris) on a Jazz Icons DVD (4th box set) - just watched both versions & they are identical. The DVD lists the recording date as Nov 3, 1965 while the RTBF site uses the date of March 16, 1968. I'd say the 65 date is correct - also supported by the Lord Discography that lists the recent French Sam label release of the same concert on a LP only (Art Blakey & The New Jazzmen - Paris '65) set using the Nov 65 date.
  5. what a find!!! Just watched the complete performance - film/video quality is superb what a lineup - Curson, Nathan Davis (great to see him but only flute), Pony, Booker (Ervin), Drew, Woode & Bateman
  6. Octave Lab label (Japan) has issued some of the Tribe releases on CD early last year (March) plus two later, non Tribe, Wendell Harrison releases & a Doug Hammond one 1. A Message from The Tribe (Complete Edn) - double CD that contains the three different LP versions - interesting history (listened to a recent interview with Phil Ranelin who remembers the first sessions for A Message... & Evening With the Devil being recorded in a Grosse Pointe basement in Detroit) 2. An Evening with the Devil - basically same recording date as #1 plus the first side of this LP was included on half of the initial (first) version of A Message..... (gets confusing). This CD also has the bonus "original" versions included 3. Doug Hammond - Reflections in the Sea of Nurnen 4. Harold McKinney - Voices & Rhythms of the Creative Profile https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2475 https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2476 https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2477 https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/OTLCD-2478
  7. Subscribe (£24 for a year), download (as they are released) & burn to CDr (AIFFs) - that's what I've been doing with most of the JIB releases
  8. The JIB vinyl is just too expensive for me (mainly due to the shipping costs to Australia) Don't understand how Honest Jons does it - I buy all of my UK vinyl through them as shipping to Australia is very very reasonable (much cheaper than JIB). Pity HJ's don't carry JIB vinyl. Also Dusty Groove in the states carries a lot of the UK releases (CD & vinyl) - again their shipping prices to Australia are great too.
  9. I used to order by phone (late at night) from here in Australia - I always spoke to the same person - she's been mentioned on this board previously. Can't remember her name but she had a lovely voice. The Tina Brooks was one of my earlier purchases. IIRC the Mingus & Cecil Taylor Candids were my first buys. Shipping would take 12 to 16 weeks via surface but it was cheap (compared to today)!!
  10. Finally a CD release of the Stan Tracy Big Brass "We Love You Madly" session - have had to rely on my aussie Columbia LP for years
  11. Wonder if the tracks (I never found out what they were) from the flexi & 7" single that came with The CP graphic novel (from 2020) "Chasin' The Bird - Charlie Parker in California" will be on this upcoming Verve release
  12. This is a wonderful set - I have the Mosaic vinyl plus Japanese CD equivalents The Mosaic set is the only place you can find the previously unreleased 7 minute version of "Between the Devil & The Deep Blue Sea"
  13. Came in the mail today & it definitely doesn't disappoint This is superb music with an absolutely killer lineup - live in LA (Bing Theatre), May 1985 - it soars!! I got quite emotional listening Roberto Miranda ensemble (x11) - includes his brother & father plus Bobby Bradford, John Carter, James Newton, Horace Tapscott - first time all 4 played together (Roberto mentions this during the concert) I'd say this could be a contender for my release of the year Get it pronto!!
  14. I would have really liked the Harriott & Garrick LPs as I'm a big Joe fan but alas I was too late - they sold so fast
  15. listening to the latest Jazz In Britain full download ie The second Ray Russell release ie Live Vol. 2: 1970 - Forget To Remember (Sextet this time) Recorded for the BBC (London) in Jan 1970 & broadcast (4 titles) soon after. This is wonderful stuff - fantastic SQ & the playing is superb from a lineup including Harry Beckett, Nick Evans, Tony Roberts, Daryl Runswick, Alan Rushton The download/CD has significantly more material than the LP - again, I've burn't my download to a CDr (AIFF files) for better sound This £24 yearly subscription with a year of downloads of any new releases plus 4 previous releases is a no brainer IMHO Have looked into getting some of the LPs but once shipping costs to Australia are added, i'll be paying approx $75Aus per LP - not worth it IMHO plus the downloads/CDs often have more recorded material than the LPs
  16. Second the Open Door, Rockland Palace. The Tristano/Parker material is also a favourite
  17. Updated release date (received email today) now May 21st - another 2 months!!
  18. I've been buying the Lord CDs since 2005 but switched to subscription in early 2018. Agreed, there are many errors - I've been contributing with corrections & new release/update details etc for the past 10 years. Still find it a very useful source. It's a massive piece of work IMHO.
  19. I can't seem to find on the JIB site where this is mentioned - the primary Bandcamp page lists Moholo
  20. Downloaded the Garrick/Harriott from JIB last night - needs two CDs - what a stellar lineup - looks like this University College (London) concert was just after the recording of "Black Marigolds" - titles from this LP & the earlier "Promises" make up most of the repertoire. Really enjoying the Ray Russell, Vol. 1 (includes early Dave Holland) Just downloaded the Mike Osborne & Friends (bandcamp download only & name your price) - again, 2 CDs worth. It's a live recording from The Peanuts Club, London - another stunning lineup - Beckett/Charig/Dean/Osborne/Skidmore/Miller/Moholo
  21. I subscribed to JIB a couple of days ago (really pissed that I missed the Harriott/Garrick LP releases) £24 for a year subscription - you get 4 older downloads (no choice here but I did manage to score the Harriott release) then all the new releases (from the date of subscription) for the next year - I'm downloading as AIFF files so I can burn my own CDs Great deal IMHO - I'll just keep doing that but also buy the occasional LP or CD
  22. got my email from Dark Tree this morning been buying directly from them since the Bradford/Carter release - no extra costs re shipping to Australia
  23. I was a sperm donor in the early to mid 80s & never thought there was any possibility of me meeting any DC offspring but to my surprise I've made contact with 10 (actually met 7) in the last 2 years. Interesting times...... it's the Fluoride
