  1. would love to know the source material for the CVsD ICP reissues. I have bought a couple of them (Yi Yole & Groupcomposing). I also have the ICP box set they sound identical (including timings) to the equivalent ones from the big box. Are they using/leasing the ICP masters(?) that were used to create the box. I actually sent John (Corbett) an email a couple of years back regarding this but got no response
  2. AFAIK all (or the vast majority) Australian 7" singles & EPs came with the small center-hole - I've never seen an aussie "large center-hole" 7"
  3. Cheers, good to know
  4. most definitely Lithuania (Vilnius)
  5. that's awful - RIP John he was only 66 https://www.freejazzblog.org/2021/01/john-russell-1954-2021.html
  6. Lord lists this single Lew McCreary (tb) David Dyson (b) replace Lester Robertson, Leroy Vinnegar, Modesto Duran out, Bud Shank (fl-1) added Los Angeles, January 8, 1964 Aram Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD] Caprichos (1) Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD], A-100 (33rpm) (ed) Eric Pacific Jazz PJ80, CDP7-93414-2 [CD], B-100 (45rpm) (ed) Note: Pacific Jazz PJ80(mono) = ST80(stereo). A promotional 45 single for radio (Pacific Jazz 100) was issued with edited versions as shown with some studio chatter and section rehearsals. The master tape of the rehearsal sequences no longer exist. (Source : Mosaic MD5-198 [CD] liner notes). All above titles also on Mosaic MD5-198 [CD].
  7. has a track on it that's only had a digital (CD) release in this set ie "Don't Get Sassy" from Jazz Wave Ltd On Tour, Vol. 1 - AFAIK this LP has never made it to CD.
  8. Would have worked in the Mosaic Select days - 5LPs on 3CDs Loved the cover to the 4CD JH Compilation from 1993
  9. I have America's #1 Band, all the Mosaics, The Alternative Takes Series plus the Decca set (for Old Testament Basie) but to complete the gaps & picked up the Past Perfect 10 CD set in the early 2000s - they were going for a song (I think I paid round $15 Aus for the whole set. The material ranges from 1939 to 1951 & covers Okeh/Columbia/RCA-Victor. I know it's not the best of quality but it's on par with the classics series (I think the CDs in the box duplicate to a large extent the Classics releases). Also "The Alternative Takes" series by the Austrian Neatwork label, 6 volumes running from 1936 to 1952 - these actually complement the French Classics series (actually mentions that on the CD slicks) I always hoped for a Basie Columbia/Okeh Mosaic but I think it would have been too large - there was talk about a few years back here
  10. My two sons are heavily involved in the music scene (all styles including jazz) here in Brisbane & Australia and many of their friends are into the Blue Note label & especially Lee Morgan. I'd say mainstream young Australia have likely never heard of him but people here in the know are really hip to him through word of mouth - nothing to do with any advertising especially utilising the Sidewinder as their soundtrack. Some of them have even seen the doco "I called him Morgan" - we have it on Netflix here
  11. I too suggested a Hutcherson set back in the 90s & Michael's reply was it would be difficult to choose an appropriate range (starting & end points) BUT he was definitely keen My impression from reading the Hoffman board is that the majority are hanging out for vinyl only releases/versions Again, back in the 90s I suggested to Michael that full page images of the respective LPs be included in the booklets - he thought it was a good idea but it appears nothing eventuated (or was it copyright issues?) BTW, Lee is ultra hip amongst my children's (mid-late 20s) generation but I'm not sure if they would go for CDs (basically fossils to them now) - it's all vinyl & Spotify/streaming

    Byard Lancaster

he plays on two tracks here (The Infant & The Hereafter)
  13. what a treasure - just love Herbie - his Mosaic was one of my early acquisitions tremendous hearing him discuss his compositions then listen to them being played
  14. Anyone have this yet? It was to be released in a deluxe edition (with a 7"45 single with "unreleased" CP material from the West Coast) or standard edition (with flexi-disc & same material as the 7"??). My copy came today (standard edn via Amazon Australia) but with no flexi-disc included - was really wanting to hear the audio. I'm waiting to hear back from Z2 comics (publishers) to see what they have to say - maybe due to this tumultous year they didn't produce the discs & include them with the books.
  15. it has sold out at the bandcamp site https://rashied-ali.bandcamp.com/album/duo-exchange-complete-sessions BTW, Amazon Australia still have it as available/in stock (Aus $54.51 = 34euros) https://www.amazon.com.au/Duo-Exchange-RASHIED-LOWE-FRANK/dp/B083XS1BNM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=rashied+ali+duo+exchange&qid=1609402344&s=music&sr=1-1
  16. I'll be able to compare it to my Mingus Candid Mosaic set (CD)
  17. bummer!!! my copy is in transit from CD japan as we speak
  18. Put my order (direct to Nimbus West) in for the new 3LP set - no indication on release date but Dusty Groove mentions round Jan 20 Also managed to score an original copy (LP) of "At The Crossroads" - didn't know it was still available - pity it never made it to CD Why is there no mention of CDs on the Nimbus West site? Another shout out to Tom Albach - wasn't aware that he'd just passed I dealt with the label directly for a number of years, even buying & shipping (to Australia) the seven solo LPs
  19. A side note on Alun Morgan - I purchased a few jazz CDs locally here in Brisbane (online in December 2017) with Alun's name/stamp on them - further enquiries led to me finding out that he was living in aged care here in Brisbane & his music collection was up for sale. He sadly passed in November 2018. Had to be the same person - wikipedia states he emigrated to Australia in 1991.
  20. "All Blues For The Viet Cong" Farewell Stanley
  21. looks like Peter Losin's site has missed the UK Spotlite Jazz CD Gillespie* / Berman*, Navarro* ‎– Gillespie/Berman, Navarro On Dial (All Known Existing Takes) Label: Spotlite Jazz ‎– SPJ-(CD) 132 Both versions are on this CD (Diggin' Diz & Diggin' For Diz)
  22. There appear to be four variants of the 78 1004 - I don't have any of these 78s but I'm not sure if this list is of any help to you James Do they all really exist? Maybe there are versions with the later label but actually play the first version with Charlie Parker - if you look at the second link for Dial 1004 - again, 4 variants, this appears to be alluded to from: https://www.78discography.com/Dial.htm also see: http://birdparkerslegacy.com/dialSPlist/dial.html But, I do have the Spotlite LP 101 (Charlie Parker On Dial, Vol. 1) - part of the 6LP box set (CP on Dial) First track on side 1 is Digging Diz (1000 - with matrix number in brackets after the title) on the label while the LP cover lists it as Diggin' Diz D1000 I've listened and it's definitely the first version with Charlie (you can't miss him) plus Arvin Garrison soloing on guitar & NO Milt Jackson. BTW, I thought the second session was February 6?
  23. Cheers Joe, Northern Windows is one of the few HH CDs I don't have
