Hat Hut Ezzthetics (Revisited series) have just released a double CD Joe Harriott set of his two classics "Free Form & Abstract". Wonder if the SQ will be any different from the original UK Redial CD reissues - I was happy with them

RIP Peter - what an amazing life he friended me on facebook a few years back

Odalisque was originally called The Progressive Mr DeFranco when it was first released on the Norgran label then it was subsequently rereleased (on the same label) as the former title then released again under the Verve banner as Odalisque I bought the Japanese CD reissues mentioned above a few years back but still have the Mosaic LP set - keeping it for the previously unreleased version of Between The Devil & The Deep Blue Sea

doesn't look like it - just had a look at my set

doesn't sound like Hank

I presume most followers of the Transition label (Boston based mid 50s run by Tom Wilson) know of the existence of sides III & IV of a (likely) double LP acetate set - the second volume has been found (not the first AFAIK). It contains outtakes (unreleased as of now) from Sun Ra's Transition recordings, A Dave Coleman track plus two versions of Bags' Groove (longer one with flubbed ending then a short one which is actually a redo of the ending) by the Joe Gordon/Roy Haynes Quintet (sounds like a quintet but no idea of who is on ts/p/dm). Some prominent tenor throughout the two tracks - love to know who it is. A fellow board member & friend has sent me the two tracks on a CDr - currently listening. These tracks were originally put up on YouTube but i havn't been able to find them - possibly removed? https://musicpriceguide.com/12572/SUN-RA-outtakes-1957-ACETATE-LP-UNRELEASED-TRANSITION-unknown-recordings-HEAR.html

interestingly, the Chubby Jackson release is not listed in discogs (or I can't find it) - have even searched the complete Uptown Jazz list on Discogs without luck https://www.discogs.com/label/162238-Uptown-Records-2?sort=year&sort_order=asc

bought many of them as they were released - many wonderful releases on this label IMHO - only one I'm looking for (at a decent price) is the Chubby Jackson double
-
That's what I did when I bought the LPs back in the 2000s - have a CDr for each LP plus I've also digitalised & burnt to CDr (x2) the latest triple LP set

New Jazz in Britain Joe Harriott release (download) titled "Formation: Live '61 https://jazzinbritain.co.uk/album/formation-live-61 Recorded a few months after the "Free Form" album with 4/5 tracks from it on this live in studio recording (Les Condon replaces Shaky Keane for this session) As usual with the previous JIB releases the SQ is very good IMHO. Will be released as a 12" EP next January but I've already downloaded it & burnt it to CDr

I'm wondering if they're all CDrs - has anyone checked the SME, Rendell/Carr (most recent) releases from the same label Also, I'm interested in the 4CD Harry South Orch Broadcasts (has a disc of Harriott with the band) - anyone have that? It's currently reduced from £18 to £10 Also, they offer a service of removing jewel cases prior to shipment for overseas customers - useful to us here in Australia
-
what a treasure trove - wondering if the releases are CDs or CDrs (a la Acrobat & others) Soho Scene 59-60 mentions that the release is a CDr http://rhythmandbluesrecords.co.uk/?product=soho-scene-59-60-jazz-goes-mod-4cd-shipped-with-booklet-and-cd-inlays-but-without-jewel-case-to-cut-down-on-foreign-postage

Just watched the first two episodes - can't believe I missed this (Don't think it was shown in Australia at the time) Amazing footage (esp Harriott in episode 1), but episode 2 covers the period i'm most interested in (Little Theatre, Blue Notes, etc etc) So many of the people interviewed have since passed. There appears to be a third program but it doesn't seem to continue on from #2 (is that correct) - looks like it covers the UK trad jazz scene (no interest there for me) Anyone with any interest in British Jazz should watch both episodes #1 & #2

already sold out at DG (will they get more?)
-
now I know what you mean - after removing the LPs from their sleeve pockets it's very difficult to put them back (very first world I agree) - I found if you open/bow the sleeve pocket to a degree the LP will slide in more easily
-
havn't tried (the 2nd LP came inserted within the gatefold while LPs 1 & 3 were in the sleeve pockets - they should have made a trifold sleeve) Just finished listening to the last LP - what an experience!! & started digitalising the 3 LPs

my copy arrived to day & it's stunning, musically & SQ - I have a lot of Horace (solo, small groups, Arkestra), including unreleased concerts & this has to be right up there at the pinnacle of his releases. Virtually one track per LP side with the bonus of Horace discussing/introducing the compositions & musicians. Horace & the Arkestra have a very special place in my personal jazz canon.
