I'm looking for discs 1 & 2 from the Giuffre Mosaic set (176) plus disc 2 from the Capitol Mosaic box (170) I do have CDrs of the missing discs but it would be nice to complete these sets
-
I thought that was the case with many/most of the original Actuel releases

Shorty Rogers Mosaic At Last!
romualdo replied to desertblues's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's good news jazzkrow BTW I could have done with a Rogers booklet - I only have CDrs of the set plus a photocopied booklet - a boardmember here kindly ripped their set for me a few years ago. I've been looking to source a set for years but they've always been out of my price range (too expensive IMHO). They were already OOP when I started buying mosaics in the early/mid 90s. I think the cost of shipping to australia would be ridiculous so I'm happy to stick with my photocopy version -
Yep!!

The Jason Weiss text "Always In Trouble - An Oral History of ESP-Disk" has a chapter dedicated to Jacques - mostly an interesting interview with him
-
also Elmo Hope - Sounds from Rikers Island McCoy Tyner - Today & Tomorrow

Thelonious Monk - Palo Alto (Impulse) --> fresh new monk!

Wow!!! I'll just have to settle for his autograph (Brisbane, Australia 1965 tour) - no, I didn't see him (was a bit young) -
-
just ordered new Ra & Kowald plus the recent Graves (Babi) & Pukwana (Yi Yole) love the CvsD covers (mini LPs) - so much better than those horrid plastic jewel cases

LF: Sun Ra Egypt 1971 RSD 5lp box set
romualdo replied to pglbook's topic in Offering and Looking For...
In Australia these Sun Ra box sets came on the market earlier (due to COVID) than the RSD date - I bought a copy (online/mail order) from a record shop in Melbourne in early August. I actually thought there were 3000 copies/boxes pressed? -

Can't order from Amazon UK here in Australia anymore but can still buy from Amazon US though (no good in this situation) - amazingly I was able to place an order via Amazon Australia - we'll see what transpires -
can't believe it's 6 years since Jonathan Horwich's (International Phonograph) superb version was released
-
did you notice at the time - I'm sure you would have - who doesn't look at/read those wonderful booklets
-
My EJ Mosaic booklet had exactly the same issue - must have been a run of faulty ones - got it replaced soon after I received it in 2004

Wow!! what an amazing pressing - really impressed. Managed to get my copy via Amazon Australia (couldn't believe it) and at a very good price with $5.45 (Aus) for shipping plus a promotional discount of $5.99 (Aus). BTW anyone who has an original LP pressing (Clifford?), was any of the dialogue between Marzette, Rashied & Frank (as heard on the 2 LP set) included on that single LP Interestingly the Knitting Factory CD from the late 90s only had the two long tracks (Movements I & III) and excluded the two shorter pieces (Movements II & IV) - I used to wonder why it was such a short LP

everything SAM RIVERS - whacha got?? - and talk about 'em all!

I've been buying directly from NB for a few years now (email contact the owner with request and get a paypal invoice) - usually do one order per year (vinyl & CD) - shipping costs from Lithuania to Australia are very reasonable Same here, Tapscott CD got to Australia in 2-3 weeks -

much appreciated for the link - great read with relevant paper clippings/pics covering SR's early musical years in Birmingham Just looked at my copy of Szwed - bought it in 1998 & it just seems like yesterday ("Time, he flexes like a whore") -
saw Billy with Barney (he's an Australian) live here in Brisbane not that long after his return from the states - must have been round 2000 looks like it was originally released on the Australian independant label AIJA (Australian Independant Jazz Artists) in 1998 as CD only then rereleased in the mid 2000s on the Australian Jazzhead label.

Yep, four alternates now in toto - being fed in dribs & drabs - two in 1997, one in 2013 & the most recent in 2015
-
nope - it's part of the 60-61 sessions (Soul Station, Roll Call, Workout & Another Workout) that have been excluded from both Mobley Mosaics Just discovered that the previously unreleased alternate take (#7) of Blue Train has been reissued on a Blue Note Blu Ray only disc (UK, Europe & US) in 2015 - this also includes a further unreleased alternate take of Lazy Bird (tk #1) https://www.discogs.com/John-Coltrane-Blue-Train/release/7483613
-
here's a few more - not all alternates ie some Three Sounds titles were only first released in this series 1. Blakey - Moanin' "Blues March" (alt, tk # unknown) 6:01 2. Coltrane - Blue Train "Blue Train" (alt, tk #7) 7:12 3. Mobley - Workout "Three Coins In The Fountain" (alt, tk #19) 4:49 4. Three Sounds - Hey There "Billy Boy" 4:15 5. Three Sounds - Here We Come "The Girl Next Door" 4:36 6. Three Sounds - Here We Come "This Is The Way 'Tis" 4:26 7. Turrentine - Hustlin' "Trouble (No 2)" (alt, tk # unknown) 7:33 8. Turrentine - Jubilee Shout "Jubilee Shout" (alt, tk # unknown) 8:31

I almost picked up a copy (book & CDs, 2nd edition) in the '00s. IIRC Cadence (Klompfoot) music used to stock it. It wasn't cheap even then but nothing like the prices being asked for today.

Just finished reading this wonderful two part (Open Sky Jazz) in depth oral history interview with Bob Northern (Brother Ah/Aah) - what an amazing/fulfilling/giving life though some of his recollections regarding the racist behaviour he experienced in a number of the orchestras (classical) he played in or almost got to play in (other players walked off stage when he came on, refusing to play) is profoundly disturbing. https://www.openskyjazz.com/2018/05/a-life-in-music-from-robert-northern-to-brother-ah/ https://www.openskyjazz.com/2018/05/a-life-in-music-from-robert-northern-to-brother-ah-part-2/

I bought a few Black Jazz CDs (Carn, Bishop Jr, Franklin) round 2013/14 as Japanese releases licenced to Snowdog (2012 reissues)
