  1. I too suggested a Hutcherson set back in the 90s & Michael's reply was it would be difficult to choose an appropriate range (starting & end points) BUT he was definitely keen My impression from reading the Hoffman board is that the majority are hanging out for vinyl only releases/versions Again, back in the 90s I suggested to Michael that full page images of the respective LPs be included in the booklets - he thought it was a good idea but it appears nothing eventuated (or was it copyright issues?) BTW, Lee is ultra hip amongst my children's (mid-late 20s) generation but I'm not sure if they would go for CDs (basically fossils to them now) - it's all vinyl & Spotify/streaming
  2. romualdo

    Byard Lancaster

he plays on two tracks here (The Infant & The Hereafter)
  3. what a treasure - just love Herbie - his Mosaic was one of my early acquisitions tremendous hearing him discuss his compositions then listen to them being played
  4. Anyone have this yet? It was to be released in a deluxe edition (with a 7"45 single with "unreleased" CP material from the West Coast) or standard edition (with flexi-disc & same material as the 7"??). My copy came today (standard edn via Amazon Australia) but with no flexi-disc included - was really wanting to hear the audio. I'm waiting to hear back from Z2 comics (publishers) to see what they have to say - maybe due to this tumultous year they didn't produce the discs & include them with the books.
  5. it has sold out at the bandcamp site https://rashied-ali.bandcamp.com/album/duo-exchange-complete-sessions BTW, Amazon Australia still have it as available/in stock (Aus $54.51 = 34euros) https://www.amazon.com.au/Duo-Exchange-RASHIED-LOWE-FRANK/dp/B083XS1BNM/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=rashied+ali+duo+exchange&qid=1609402344&s=music&sr=1-1
  6. I'll be able to compare it to my Mingus Candid Mosaic set (CD)
  7. bummer!!! my copy is in transit from CD japan as we speak
  8. Put my order (direct to Nimbus West) in for the new 3LP set - no indication on release date but Dusty Groove mentions round Jan 20 Also managed to score an original copy (LP) of "At The Crossroads" - didn't know it was still available - pity it never made it to CD Why is there no mention of CDs on the Nimbus West site? Another shout out to Tom Albach - wasn't aware that he'd just passed I dealt with the label directly for a number of years, even buying & shipping (to Australia) the seven solo LPs
  9. A side note on Alun Morgan - I purchased a few jazz CDs locally here in Brisbane (online in December 2017) with Alun's name/stamp on them - further enquiries led to me finding out that he was living in aged care here in Brisbane & his music collection was up for sale. He sadly passed in November 2018. Had to be the same person - wikipedia states he emigrated to Australia in 1991.
  10. "All Blues For The Viet Cong" Farewell Stanley
  11. looks like Peter Losin's site has missed the UK Spotlite Jazz CD Gillespie* / Berman*, Navarro* ‎– Gillespie/Berman, Navarro On Dial (All Known Existing Takes) Label: Spotlite Jazz ‎– SPJ-(CD) 132 Both versions are on this CD (Diggin' Diz & Diggin' For Diz)
  12. There appear to be four variants of the 78 1004 - I don't have any of these 78s but I'm not sure if this list is of any help to you James Do they all really exist? Maybe there are versions with the later label but actually play the first version with Charlie Parker - if you look at the second link for Dial 1004 - again, 4 variants, this appears to be alluded to from: https://www.78discography.com/Dial.htm also see: http://birdparkerslegacy.com/dialSPlist/dial.html But, I do have the Spotlite LP 101 (Charlie Parker On Dial, Vol. 1) - part of the 6LP box set (CP on Dial) First track on side 1 is Digging Diz (1000 - with matrix number in brackets after the title) on the label while the LP cover lists it as Diggin' Diz D1000 I've listened and it's definitely the first version with Charlie (you can't miss him) plus Arvin Garrison soloing on guitar & NO Milt Jackson. BTW, I thought the second session was February 6?
  13. Cheers Joe, Northern Windows is one of the few HH CDs I don't have
  14. has this been mentioned previously? Not sure if this 1973 Montreux Jazz Festival recording has ever existed in the digital (CD) realm - Discogs lists no CD releases Trio with Bob Cranshaw & Kenny Clarke. Hampton plays a lot of electric piano, maybe thats why it's been passed over?
  15. looks like the two extras on the "Mingus Presents" disc are previously unreleased AFAIK - they don't appear to be in the Mosaic set not sure how accurate the Japanese translator appears
  16. Update on my order from Amazon (Australia) - received it this morning & what a bummer, unfortunately it's a CDr. Just returned it. I'll end up getting it directly from Sleepy Night though I'll be paying quite a bit more now due to the added shipping (was able to get free shipping with Amazon Prime)
  17. Is this whole Candid reissue series (there are a few others too) based on mono remasters? https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/release/music/jazz-fusion/month/ BTW, the Mosaic Mingus Candid set was created from the mono masters
  18. Cheers Also Sleepynight have replied confirming this - the ones they sell (from their site) are CDs. Does that mean someone else is flogging them off as CDrs?
  19. Some differences there from the LP set
  20. Anyone who has a copy of the Lost Quintet could they please check to see if it's a CD or CDr - was about to purchase a copy today (via Amazon Australia) & one of the UK reviews gave it a one star rating, warning their copy was actually a CDr. I've sent a query to Sleepynight but havn't yet received a reply.
  21. i have used bookbinding glue for many years & have repaired/restored hundreds of records over the years - spines, tops & bottoms, foldover flaps (for those Australian, NZ, SA, UK, euro 60s LPs) and even tears. I normally source the glue from a local bookbinder - there are still quite a few of them around (well that is in Australia) The great thing about this glue is that it dries clear & remains pliable/soft (but not sticky) I never use tape - it ruins the covers long term - if you have to then try Scotch Magic tape or something similar
  22. Honest Jon's have it for £40 !! - looks like DG is the better option for me in Australia
  23. I also transferred my LP set (do a lot of vinyl transferring/digitalising) but also have the two Avid (UK - grey area releases) double CD sets - they cover virtually all of the tracks in the box set sans an alternate take (Jeep Is Jumpin') that was only released on a Norgran 78
  24. My version (from the UK Charly CD "Overture To Dawn" The Apartment Sessions) is basically Erroll on piano with drum support Definitely no trombone or clarinet The key is mentioned on page 332 of the Blue Note Discography (1st Edn) "This recording featured parts by Bobby Pratt (tb) & Barney Bigard (cl), which are not included in issued records" So, The Lord Discography needs to be modified - I'll send that info to Tom (Lord) to update/modify as I contribute to it the Lord Discography has these details All Stars Orchestra : Bobby Pratt (tb) Barney Bigard (cl) Erroll Garner (p) George Wettling (d) New York, December, 1944 It had to be you (unissued) I surrender dear (incomplete) Blue Note BLP5008, New York (Dan) (no#), BNP (F)25.102, Official (Dan)83016-2 [CD], Classics (F)802 [CD] Note: "I surrender dear" as "Beg your pardon on New York (Dan)(no#). whereas The Jazz Discography Project has Erroll Garner, piano; George Wettling or maybe Doc West, drums; overdubbed in at a later date, poss. 1953. Timme Rosenkrantz apartment, NYC, December 14, 1944 I Surrender, Dear
