I bought this CD (along with a few other Gullin items & the great Norman Howard tribute LP from the anagram website in 2010) - pity the website has shut down - is David Reid still contactable? I can help with two of the titles, "Ablution" & "Detour Ahead The MOMA concert (Moderna Museet, Stockholm) was recorded on March 30, 1964 - originally released on Sonet LP 2659 (see below) The extract below is slightly wrong - "Ablution" & "Detour Ahead" are on Anagram CD 7 (not "You Stepped Out Of A Dream") http://gullin.blogspot.com.au/search?updated-min=2007-01-01T00:00:00%2B01:00&updated-max=2008-01-01T00:00:00%2B01:00&max-results=15 The forgotten tapes Only parts of the 1964 concert at the Museum of Modern Art (Moderna museet) were published on Sonet. Now Jan Olsson reports that he has rediscovered the remaining materal, including You Stepped out of a Dream, Ablution, Detour Ahead and Fascinating Rhythm. The first two have been issued on Anagram CD7. But Detour Ahead is played by Rolf Billberg alone with the rhythm section and strings. Nu Gullin present, so strike b from session 64-02. Lars Gullin with Strings Lars Gullin var tillbaka i Stockholm i början på 1964. Rolf Billberg hade också återvänt och de började spela alltmer tillsammans. Did the same with a disc from one of the recent Ellington sets a couple of years ago - there's a real art to getting those discs out (unbelievably tight) in some of the boxes

Anyone suggest where I can obtain the EP LP Western Front without paying big sums for shipping Last night I tried to order directly from the Western Front Website -> $ Can20 -> thought that was reasonable but then I was hit with a $40 shipping fee (luckily I was able to cancel my order) I just wish they would have produced a digital version (CD) - you do get a code to obtain a digital download if you buy the LP but I don't really want to spend $60 on an LP

Check this amazing glass making documentary "Glas" by Bert Haanstra that won an Oscar in 1959 (best documentary - short subject) The soundtrack involved the Pim Jacobs Quintet & avant electronic music. http://kottke.org/13/07/glas I was intrigued watching their hands & mouths - much like playing instruments The prominence of the clarinet is entirely appropriate here

Anyone in Australia happen to watch the recent Chris Masters (investigative journalist) series "The Years That Made Us - Australia Between The Wars" on the ABC (aired late June & July - 3 parts). The first episode covering up to 1929 included a segment dedicated to Sonny Clay's visit here, his band (including Ivie Anderson) & their subsequent expulsion/deportation from Australia (photos & interesting re-enactment). Couldn't believe my eyes when this appeared on the screen but apparently this was big news here at the time.

His Candid release "Tubby's New Groove" is a stunner made during the same sessions that resulted in his classic "Tubby's Groove" It's taken from original tapes (that were sent to Alfred Lion for a potential Blue Note release) & not a needle drop as is most of the Tempo CD releases (master tapes destroyed) my copy is too

I've noticed that the original Verve LP (great cover) contains a Giuffre title "Used To Be" that has not been released on CD Instead, the ECM (twofer Fusion/Thesis) CD release contains an unreleased title "Afternoon" - I'm wondering if they are the same title though timings are different (nothing in CD liner notes) Anyone out there with a copy of the vinyl or know why this has been omitted? I'm surprised these two classic Verve's (Fusion & Thesis) havn't had more CD exposure (maybe Japan) Big fan of JG here esp this period - also Vandermark's Free Fall groups paying homage to this period

I'm currently trying to sort out the Lee Konitz Paris session (Sept 17, 1953) that yielded the Vogue 10" (LD 169 - 7 titles) "Lee Konitz Plays" & the Roost 10" (RLP 416 - 6 titles) "Originalee Konitz" What makes things confusing is that both French & US releases were similar but the title names were changed the session resulted in 14 titles, 11 of which have been released on CD I'll Remember April (5 versions) You'd be so Nice To come Home To (4 versions - only 1 version released on CD) All The Things You Are (3 versions) These Foolish Things (2 versions) The Lord Discography has attempted to address this but there appear to be a few errors present (eg the roost LP is listed as having 7 titles) What I need is a burn of an original Roost 10" LP - anyone out there have a copy they would like to digitalise for me? so I can compare those tracks to the ones I have (3 versions of this session ie the recent 25CD Vogue box , the late 90's black digipak & the 95 BMG Konitz/Brookmeyer in Paris) It will be for a good cause ie - updating/correcting the Lord Discography

Just picked up "Tubby's New Groove" on Candid Simon Spillett's notes are fascinating (his liner notes are always illuminating & jam packed with info) - will definitely get the book This session(s) comes from the classic Tempo "Tubby's Groove" sessions In the late 50's, tapes from Tempo were sent to Alfred Lion with the possibility of a Hayes Blue Note release (as with Dizzy Reece) This never eventuated (Reece didn't sell well). These tapes were in Michael Cuscuna's possessionafter much searching & have been transferred to disc. So, these are much better quality recordings of Tempo material (most of what we currently have are transfers from LP as all the original tapes were destroyed in the 60/70's) & probably his best session/s Any Hayes fan should have this recording.
