  1. sent them an email two weeks ago & enquired re shipping costs to Australia (for the NYA4 box) - no reply as of yet
  2. While this is certainly an interesting project, I don't think it really qualifies, given that each set is from a different group and you don't have any sense of the group settling down into a medium-length residency at a club. At least I thought that was what was being discussed. Certainly some of these sets don't really qualify. Not precisely the same but the Goodman Madhattan Room Broadcasts might be of interest. Not sure there is a legit source for them at the moment (as a box set that is). you're right - didn't get the full gist of the thread ie "having a complete (or almost complete) record of a substantial live date or set of dates" - have modified my list
  3. Jeff thanks for uploading those files from your newly aquired 78 - now have them in iTunes, beefing up my Mobley collection nice to have some early Hank - don't have any of his Regal material is that him soloing with the whistler (Paul Gayten I presume)?
  4. What about AMM - The Crypt (2CD Matchless) Waldron / Lacy - Live At Dreher Paris 1981 (4CD Hatology) Charles Mingus - Complete 61-62 Birdland Broadcasts (3CD RLR) Trio X - 2006 US Tour (7CD CIMP/Cadence) -> does this qualify ie same group but different locations Trio X - Live On Tour 2008 (5CD CIMP/Cadence) -> ditto Anthony Braxton Ninetet - Yoshi's 1997 (8CD - Leo) Anthony Braxton Quartet - Coventry 1985 (4CD - Leo)
  5. havn't received my copy yet but admittedly I'm a bit further away from the source
  6. Doesn't make sense - all of the individual CDs are available (some are OOP but still easy to pick up) - nothing rare or exclusive about that I was lucky enough to get Andrew to autograph the set when he played here in Brisbane in the late 90's
  7. Grooves-inc (Switzerland) currently have a 15% discount (till Feb 18) on any single item (code us112) -> discount on the highest priced item in order (if order total is over 20 euros then shipping is free) They have the box advertised as 19.99 euros & with the discount the price came down to 16.99 (also free shipping).
  8. pm on John Coxon/Evan Parker/Eddie Prevost – Cinema (Fataka) Ganelin Trio – Priority (SLR) Charles Gayle Trio – Look Up (ESP) Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra with Evan Parker & Lol Coxhill – Improcherto (for HB) (Iorram) Evan Parker/Wes Neal/Joe Sorbara – At Somewhere There (Barnyard) Ivo Perelman/Dominic Duval – Soul Calling (CJR)
  9. OMG - how did I miss this? RIP Donald have quite a bit of your recorded output & will give it a memorial replay
  10. Many thanks I had an inkling there would be previous threads dedicated to him but finding them can be a challenge
  11. I've just read about/discovered Frank Hewitt, a Hard Bop pianist (born in 36) who only recorded for a short time span (late 90's to the early 2000's) before he passed. His recordings are solely on the Smalls label (correct?) - any recommendations Anyone see him perform?
  12. thanks Jim that's a pity - hopefully there may have been audience recordings that could surface in the future
  13. Were there any recordings made of the Randall island (NYC) Jazz Festivals Chet Baker played with Bob Zieff on piano in 1958 while Zieff led a larger band in 1959 that included Steve Lacy I've never seen any of this material listed or circulating particularly interested in any Zieff performances
  14. sorry, should have been more specific - I did place may order in late Jan
  15. placed my pre-order seems that 40 euros includes Australia too
  16. The Cecil Taylor 2xLP they put out cost $110, so keep that in mind, too ... That's been on my mind all along. Though I'm a big CT fan I still passed on that double LP ($110 plus shipping) 80 mins from over 10hrs of recordings during their VV residency - I'm certain this will be released in the future as a more complete CD set - will wait for that The NYA4 sounds fantastic but the price when you compare it the recent ICP box I recently purchased is over the top (52 CDs/DVDs vs 5 LP's) It would have been much better to release the set on CD (probably 3) thus reducing it's exclusivity - they would have shifted a lot more units this way
  17. Had my copy for a few weeks now - SQ excellent can't stop playing "The Dong With The Luminous Nose" - it has such an infectious groove I used to have an Ivor Cutler LP (Virgin?) called "Fleas In Custard"
  18. Got an email from Clean Feed yesterday - they don't usually have a time frame for the sale Interested in the Peter Evans (Live In Lisbon) Recommend the Evan Parker Trio plus Peter Evans - "Scenes In The House Of Music" Also Rudd/Dresser (Airwalkers), Parker/Nilssen-Love (TownHouseOrchestra), Alvin Fielder, any Dennis Gonzalez, Joe Morris/Ken Vandermark, Charles Gayle
  19. And sold out. Already a bit cheaper from some of the Amazon resellers, and my current usual best price resellers (importcds and moviemars) haven't even listed it yet. Import CD's have it listed for $30.99 -> was going to go that way but Amazon UK is even better @ 19.04 pounds (comes down to 15.80 after VAT removed)
  20. Jazzmessengers.com is based in Barcelona, Spain, so there'll be no routine checks or taxes and customs fees within the European Union. I recently placed an order with Jazz Messengers - free overseas shipping on orders over 60 euros (not hard to reach) - very happy with the service & shipping times The way the Aussie $ is at present it's much cheaper buying direct from Mosaic (prefer to do this anyway) than sourcing from Jazz Messengers Have been very lucky with customs charges etc here in Australia - only been hit once since 1986 (was charged duty in 1986 on the Frank Zappa Old Masters Vol. 1 Box & since then nix) I sweated while waiting for the ellington RCA box (was expecting to pay duty on that but it did not eventuate)
  21. I thought it was the Joe Davis label (78's 8250 & 8251)
  22. From www.platomania.eu. Surely a 2 cd digipack can be shipped for €6 in a bubble mailer (what they use when shipping domestic)? Wereld/World (outside Europe): The fee to deliver your order outside of Europe depends on the type and amount of products you are purchasing. 1-3 cd's = € 6,- More than 3 cd's and all lp's/dvd's, etc.: Up to 500 grams = € 10,- Between 500 grams and 2 kilos = € 20,- More than 2 kilos = € 35,- Orders with more than one item will be send when the order is complete. Just checked Platomania's website and saw those shipping rates. If ordered from them the total for the set including shipping to Australia would be 28.99 euros and I don't find that obscenely expensive. That's not what I got when I tried this a few weeks ago - it was much more than that plus it's also a bit difficult to navigate the site if you are not familiar with the language of the netherlands
  23. Is there any other way of ordering these Concertgebouw CDs than through the online dealer (Platomania) - tried this but shipping to Australia was obscenely expensive, so I scuttled that one I'm sure there was a link above that enabled you to email (Jazzz Archive site?) what you wanted & someone would get back to you but that seems to have disappeared http://www.muziekcen...order-jazz-cds/ As I have stated previously I originally bought the Baker CD directly from the DJ archive
  24. Transparency is a legitimate operation run by Michael Sheppard (meridianavenue@yahoo.com) - he has released quite a number of Sun Ra items (CDs & DVD's) since the mid 2000's (carried by Dusty Groove etc or you can buy directly from him) - most recent is the 14CD Ra set "The Eternal Myth Revisited, Vol. 1" Havn't heard much from him since then - awaiting his most recent release "Red Garter" 2CD Ra set
  25. I've been listening to a radio broadcast (excellent SQ) of the Andrew Hill "Point Of Departure Sextet" playing at the 2000 Chicago Jazz Festival There are also a couple of trio/quartet tracks with Von Freeman (you can hear the crowd yelling "Vonski") Does anyone know the track titles/names (4 in total, including Von) - possibly a couple (2 longish 20min tracks) from the Palmetto Sextet "Dusk" release around the same time The Freeman tracks are shorter, one ballady Can this be discussed here? or are we in "bootleg" territory?
