  4. Jonathan what about Tapscott's "Giant Is Awakened" - you had mentioned that previously with the Carter-Bradford FD Was really hoping for that one as would all HT fans
  5. Jutta Hipp release looks interesting but correct me if I'm wrong - looks like it's only an LP release MDT (UK) has the CDs for £ 6.75 (£5.12 for those of us who don't have to pay VAT) http://www.mdt.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=jazz+haus&t=general&order=most_viewed

  7. It's coupled with "The Golden Striker" on a Collectables CD
  8. Anyone got the Armstrong or Ellington sets yet? Any further info on SQ/mastering/remastering Import CDs have both Armstrong & Ellington sets at a good price Armstrong @ $36.29 with the current 10% discount promo, takes this down to $32.66 Ellington @ $34.09 with the current 10% discount promo, takes this down to $30.68 I've ordered the Ellington but a bit hesitant on the Armstrong - as the discs follow the 80's Sony individual CD's tracklists, I'm concerned they will be using the old disc masters The 2000 remastered 4CD set contains quite a few titles not here (I've got this plus the remastered 4CD RCA set) - 6 of the 10 discs
  9. received mine
  10. when I place my order(s) via email, Leo always sends me a reply/confirmation
  11. A coincidence, the last time I saw Curson was with the Arvanitas trio. I got the chance to see him several times, including once with his burning 70's octet and once in a quintet with Nick Brignola. Curson will be missed. RIP. my post was also lost but here goes again RIP Ted - will miss you but your music lives on will have another listen to the Wolfgangs Vault download of his hot octet at Newport (NYC, 76)

  16. They are worth it, even at full price. An interesting shelf-clearing exercise of unreleased tapes and old Leo lps. At least one disc per box set is excellent. I highly recommend the Guyvoronsky/Volkov, Homo Liber, Orkestrion, Chekasin and Vysniauskas discs. Some interesting stuff on the Andrew Solovyev/Igor Grigoriev and Vapirov discs as well. I consider these 4 sets essential documents of late 20th century Soviet jazz/improv, especially vols I (Kuryokhin, Ponomareva, Vapirov) & IV (Ganelin members) Get these while you can, especially at these prices
  17. yep!! ordered "Contrabasses" in my most recent order - have to agree with Stefan
  18. thanks for the link to the covers - they really kick ass

  20. I've been following his site recently missed out on the Brackeen/Cherry Rhythm X CD (currently high on my wants list) - went for under $30 - was too late & didn't get a chance to bid
  21. Currently for sale on ebay - way out of my price range!! ($70 a piece) but just love these covers!! (amongst my fave jazz LP art) http://www.ebay.com/sch/takarayama/m.html?item=251163256364&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Have these ever been domestically released?
  22. Mike, many thanks for the interest & effort If unsure always "go to the source" Another Monk discography item that needs to be sorted is/are the Paris Olympia Concert(s) - I commenced a thread on this last year
  23. totally agree - I find that discographical information can be initially erroneously entered then perpetuated through the years & from discography to discography look forward to your findings
  24. Did TM record "Honeysuckle Rose" once or twice for Columbia There's a bit of confusion surrounding this track Version 1. Studio trio (Gales & Riley) version from March 2, 1965 -> this session was all solo material except for Honeysuckle... This title was released on the Columbia LP "Misterioso" (not had a US release on CD), a mixed bag of live/fake-live tracks According to Robin Kelley's book (pp 371 & 544) Teo Macero added an applause track & sourced it as live at the Village Gate - it was actually the studio version Version 2. Live (Jazz Workshop) Nov 3, 1964 - an incomplete version according to the Lord Discog (CO 85107) first released on the double LP "Always Know" in 79 This is supposed to run for about 10mins according to info I have; It wasn't released on the double Workshop CD from the early 2000's - wonder why? (non Monk material??) I don't have any Columbia copies of this title (vinyl or CD) There is a version on the triple Monk Columbia compilation from the early 2000's - is it an alternate or actually the released March 2, 1965 version (with or without applause) or the real "live" version from the JW Also, was this title really recorded at the JW or was it "faked/tweaked" too What version is on the euro CD release of Misterioso Any Monk scholars or others with access to these LPs/Cds out there who can help me out
  25. Anyone have a Booker Little discography. I'm a completist on this one! Alan Saul's discography is very helpful (also a good Eric Dolphy discog) http://adale.org/Discographies/Booker.html
