  1. Had my copy for a few weeks now - SQ excellent can't stop playing "The Dong With The Luminous Nose" - it has such an infectious groove I used to have an Ivor Cutler LP (Virgin?) called "Fleas In Custard"
  2. Got an email from Clean Feed yesterday - they don't usually have a time frame for the sale Interested in the Peter Evans (Live In Lisbon) Recommend the Evan Parker Trio plus Peter Evans - "Scenes In The House Of Music" Also Rudd/Dresser (Airwalkers), Parker/Nilssen-Love (TownHouseOrchestra), Alvin Fielder, any Dennis Gonzalez, Joe Morris/Ken Vandermark, Charles Gayle
  3. And sold out. Already a bit cheaper from some of the Amazon resellers, and my current usual best price resellers (importcds and moviemars) haven't even listed it yet. Import CD's have it listed for $30.99 -> was going to go that way but Amazon UK is even better @ 19.04 pounds (comes down to 15.80 after VAT removed)
  4. Jazzmessengers.com is based in Barcelona, Spain, so there'll be no routine checks or taxes and customs fees within the European Union. I recently placed an order with Jazz Messengers - free overseas shipping on orders over 60 euros (not hard to reach) - very happy with the service & shipping times The way the Aussie $ is at present it's much cheaper buying direct from Mosaic (prefer to do this anyway) than sourcing from Jazz Messengers Have been very lucky with customs charges etc here in Australia - only been hit once since 1986 (was charged duty in 1986 on the Frank Zappa Old Masters Vol. 1 Box & since then nix) I sweated while waiting for the ellington RCA box (was expecting to pay duty on that but it did not eventuate)
  5. I thought it was the Joe Davis label (78's 8250 & 8251)
  6. From www.platomania.eu. Surely a 2 cd digipack can be shipped for €6 in a bubble mailer (what they use when shipping domestic)? Wereld/World (outside Europe): The fee to deliver your order outside of Europe depends on the type and amount of products you are purchasing. 1-3 cd's = € 6,- More than 3 cd's and all lp's/dvd's, etc.: Up to 500 grams = € 10,- Between 500 grams and 2 kilos = € 20,- More than 2 kilos = € 35,- Orders with more than one item will be send when the order is complete. Just checked Platomania's website and saw those shipping rates. If ordered from them the total for the set including shipping to Australia would be 28.99 euros and I don't find that obscenely expensive. That's not what I got when I tried this a few weeks ago - it was much more than that plus it's also a bit difficult to navigate the site if you are not familiar with the language of the netherlands
  7. Is there any other way of ordering these Concertgebouw CDs than through the online dealer (Platomania) - tried this but shipping to Australia was obscenely expensive, so I scuttled that one I'm sure there was a link above that enabled you to email (Jazzz Archive site?) what you wanted & someone would get back to you but that seems to have disappeared http://www.muziekcen...order-jazz-cds/ As I have stated previously I originally bought the Baker CD directly from the DJ archive
  8. Transparency is a legitimate operation run by Michael Sheppard (meridianavenue@yahoo.com) - he has released quite a number of Sun Ra items (CDs & DVD's) since the mid 2000's (carried by Dusty Groove etc or you can buy directly from him) - most recent is the 14CD Ra set "The Eternal Myth Revisited, Vol. 1" Havn't heard much from him since then - awaiting his most recent release "Red Garter" 2CD Ra set
  9. I've been listening to a radio broadcast (excellent SQ) of the Andrew Hill "Point Of Departure Sextet" playing at the 2000 Chicago Jazz Festival There are also a couple of trio/quartet tracks with Von Freeman (you can hear the crowd yelling "Vonski") Does anyone know the track titles/names (4 in total, including Von) - possibly a couple (2 longish 20min tracks) from the Palmetto Sextet "Dusk" release around the same time The Freeman tracks are shorter, one ballady Can this be discussed here? or are we in "bootleg" territory?
  10. Allen - would you know the name of the abovementioned trumpeter (was it Ernest Coycault?) - I'm currently listening to this CD (picked it up out of historical interest & I'm glad I did) - his band was "thrown" out of Australia in 1928 - interesting liner notes I also highly recommend the recent DE release "The Washingtonians, 24-28" -> SQ vastly improved on previous issues (that I have) - looking forward to the new Ellington The McKinney's Cotton Pickers (3CD) was also part of my most recent order - another great set (JRT Davies mastering)
  11. RIP George will have another listen to "Mental Cruelty" for you
  12. Joy Spring is actually Daahoud (they've made a mistake) hopefully this will sound better than the RLR version - doubt if this version came from the original VOA tapes (probably a radio broadcast or an audience tape)
  13. I have those on the Blue Notes/Frank Wright disc. Plays but is totally un-rip-able on any computer drive. Might be time for Ogun to re-consider their packaging. I replace those crappy plastic sleeves (which I blame because they easily tear and dust or whatever gets in an casues those lines which are scratches) with paper sleeves now, but it's too late on that one. This is really too bad! I love Ogun but I hate stuff like this! Guess the regular jewel case ain't too bad an idea, after all. I use the cellophane inner sleeves (buy from Sound Source in the US who get them from Japan) - thin & very protective
  14. Which of these was the original/earlier cover? have seen both of these listed as 6023
  15. another sad ending - living out of a van in his final years (like Sly) His memory will live on for me - was only listening to "Absolutely Free" yesterday RIP RAY - "Memories of El Monte"
  16. loved her name - it was so distinctive RIP Jayne
  17. Oh No! RIP Fontella
  18. Havn't heard of the Wayne Shorter "Without A Net" Blue Note - priced at three times that of the other BN releases - is it a compilation?

    ICP Box set

sent an email to Challenge today - see what they have to say Other anomaly that I've detected ICP CD 049 had a 12th "bonus" track (video of "Steigerpijp") that is not present on CD 049 in the box just received a reply regarding 1) Misha DVD, 2) ICP 049 & 3) cassette 017 To answer your questions: 1. The broadcasting company who owns the rights to this dvd did not allow ICP or us to replicate this disc for the boxset. We felt we wanted to offer a replacement instead and came across these never before released recordings of the concert with ASKO. 2. ICP049 was an exact copy of an original CD provided to us. There is no knowledge of a 12th track with us or the people from ICP who worked on this box with us. 3. You are the second person to imply these cd's are the same. It could be that for the original casette the decision was made to have the same audio put on side B as well, but ICP could not (yet) confirm if this is correct.

    ICP Box set

Don't have the cassette. Although they are the same composition I haven't listened to more than about a minute of both, so they could diverge in terms of the improvisation. Disc 2 sounds more distorted, though, and that is a definite difference. I must say that as much as I enjoy it this is an inconsistently curated box and there will probably be more mistakes popping up as people who collected the catalog over the years go through their boxes. I've opened both discs with audacity & the wave forms appear "identical" - also each side of the cassette, AFAIK, had different sources (live localities?) & weren't the same improvised title

    ICP Box set

My box finally arrived yesterday (long haul to Australia) - no damage though the sleeved discs were scattered through the box - the "insert/CD cradle" wasn't doing it's job - sorted that problem by glueing (bookbinding glue to the flaps) it into the box -> now sturdy & CDs stay in place I'm quite impressed with the general design - outer box is sturdy, cover artwork is legible - the book is a real treat - photographs accompany most of the recording sessions (live & studio) Only listened to the first 2 discs so far - happy with the SQ (long way to go though) slowly transferring the set to itunes - Unfortunately I've detected a fault -> discs 19 & 20 are identical ie the Mengelberg/Bennink double "Coincidents" (discs 19 & 20 - both ICP 017, both with virtually identical timing) - was originally released as a cassette (ICP #17) - I presume each disc is a side of the cassette - not sure if they have doubled up on side A or B - anyone out there with a copy of the cassette. No, I havn't been given the same disc twice - each disc is labelled # 19 & 20 respectively - i presume we will all have the same error (or was the cassette also like this too?).
